**EDIT**ID WITH Pics. Looks like cubensis... but I dont think they are
    #14513206 - 05/26/11 12:52 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I fond a group of 6-8 mushrooms that looked exactly like p. cubensis. The only difference is lack of bruising. Everything else is spot on. I have pics, but cant upload until I get a cord from a friend. I know its near impossible to ID w/o a pic, but trust me- it looks just like a small cube. The fruits were seperate from ea other- not a cluster, but tight group. Most were fully developed, but there were a couple young ones- they, too, looked like cubes. Someone has dumped spent or contamanated cubensis cakes near the bale, but still several hundred feet from where they were found, and no fruits have been seen at the "dump site".

I have discarded all picked fruits, and have no intention of consuming them. I will post pics soon, but thought possibly a tentitive id could be made if, say, only 1 other type has a dark print or something along those lines. I really dont think they are cubensis, but the similarities are incredible. Only the lack of bluing, and the wrong geography set these apart from P cubensis.

Habitat: Old bale of decaying hay.(Not straw)

Gills: Tan- Look exactly like p cubensis

Stem: Tan. Hollow. Little fibery- grain goes up and down.

Cap: Brown to tan, smooth, 1-3" in diameter.

Spore print color: Dark purple/black color. Exactly like cubensis

Bruising: No color change was observed.

Location: Picked in north eastern USA. Coastal ME. It has rained for 8 straight days.

Smell: Earthy- mushroomy.

Maybe Stropharia semiglobata is a possibility?

Stropharia semiglobata looks closer to me... Agrocybe pediades looks more purple in the gills. These are much more tan/brown... Aside from that, tho, they both look like "my" mushrooms.

No, Stropharia semiglobata has more purple gills than Agrocybe pediades.
