Cactus ID request
    #14514750 - 05/26/11 11:26 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I found this cactus in a store and I bought it....Is it a San Pedro? Or what?

I noticed that it has some little black spots....Is a sign of any disease? Or is it ok?

Looks a lot like the ones I bought recently. The spines especially seem similar. But I'm a total newb.

Dunno about the spots, my first guess is it was environmental and whatever caused it caused the budding at that spot too.
Maybe a cold window pane or something.

The black spots in this instance look very similar to the damage caused when a plant almost "dies back" usually happens through dormancy not being triggered fully and the plant kills off the growing shoots to stump itself, this one was saved before that happenned and your left with scarring which was originally a blackened tip which for a short while is vulnerable to mold/rott but this has recoveed. it has also had a weird period in its life regarding not enough light and then that has been corrected and it has started to grow normally again. Looks like a variety of trichocereus but which variety i could not say on the quality of your pics, definitely looks active :drooling:

The black spots look like physical damage (more likely) or severe sunburn to me. It's nothing to worry about.

At first glance it looks like a PC-allied pachanoid. "San Pedro" seems like an appropriate label.
