Question- Pasteurizing

Okay, well I'm trying something new. I collected some Moose dung, and I'm
planning on mixing 50/50 with verm. I have some 4x4x9 inch bread pans
that I'm using, and spawning with some grated brf cakes. If I were to mix
up the substrate with the proper moisture, and put it into the bread
pans, cover them with tin foil and baked them at 170degrees for say,
45min, would this be suffice? This is my first go around with bulk, and
I've wanted to try moose dung, just because I don't believe it has been
done before and it is laying around my yard like crazy. Thanks.

some people use ovens to pasteurize
its not the best way.
you can lose a lot of moisture from your substrate.
you want to load that field capacity substrate into a bag or a jar. with a temperature probe in the core of the substrate.
and heat it in a pot of water. not touching the bottom.
of course.

What if it was sealed with tinfoil?
Then after I could re adjust it to field capacity?
I'm not sure, I don't even know how well its going to grow in moose poo.
I've read some stuff on here saying it could be done, and I thought about
trying it many years ago, but never got around to it.
The main point is for the substrate to reach 160-170 degrees correct?

the main point is for it to reach and maintain and not go over 160-170
for 1 hour

I did some more searching.
So, I guess I'm going to do it on the stove top, or try the cooler tek.
I don't have much substrate to pasteurize thats why I was hoping I could just use the oven.
Which would you recommend?
I don't like the pillow idea, due to having to strain it out, and losing what nutes are in the moose poo.

K, I put all my substrate in a large freezer bag, took a big pot, filled
it with water, put a strainer part of the way into it, and then put the
bag of substrate into the strainer. I then placed a meat therm. in
through the opening of the bag, then closed it around the therm. Heated
it to 160 for over 1 hr. Its cooling now. Hopefully all is good. Thanks
for the input Koolaid.

I hope so! But, if not, its just a lesson learned. No big thing.

I did dozens of moose dropping grows when I lived in AK. It works pretty good. Break up and then mix half and half with vermiculite or straw. Pasteurize and use. RR

RR- Did you happen to log any of that?
In your exp, how does it work as a substrate compared to Hpoo, or CC.
Anything I should watch out for?
If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you live in AK?

I'd say the pasteurization worked, and so does Moose Poo!

very interesting poo choice. Good to use what you got though.

I've been wanting to try it for years, but never got around to it. I
asked about it back then too, and I believe RR told me it would work back
then too. I just collected another shopping bag FULL in my yard in about
10-15min. So its out there, I just gotta find it! I'm just wondering how
much the fruits will benefit from it, its something new and exciting for
me. I guess thats all that matters!
