Way sick peyote. Help!! ?
    #14511052 - 05/25/11 05:37 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

My peyote is sickkk.
I've been told it is rotting, and probably cant be saved. And that the only way to try and save it is to cut it a few milimeters above the soil and let it dry for months before trying to water again.

The other one doesnt look so bad, but doesnt look quiet right either. I'm hoping someone here has seen something like this before and has some first hand experience. I just wanna get a 2nd opinion before I chop it. :[

I water them about once every month or two usually. Some months maybe twice..I havent really kept a strict schedule. (and I live in southern california) The one just started looking really bad in the last few months. (2-5??)
Only things I can think that have changed recently is that I repotted them into a mix of about equal parts cactus soil, sifted soil from my yard (sand pretty much) and the white rocks you see on top. And a few months ago I gave them some water from the water I was using on my san pedro that had some cactus fertilizer in it. Sometimes I see littttle tiny mite looking bugs on em. They look whitish in color.

This is what they looked like when I first got them.

The really bad one. Dry & misted to see the color better.

The not as bad one.

i know what the problem is.

you are over obsessing. cacti thrive on neglect.

they look perfectly fine.

and if you keep them under shaded light outside, you'll see them growe to their true potential.

as for water 2wice a month, i can remember the last time i watered mine. so it could have been months.\

remember that cacti live out in the desert with no water around.

so i hope that helps.

oh and BTW, you should see how close mine are to soil line. you would swear they are in natural habitat.

I'm going to have to agree with Ferrel_human. The "really bad one" looks like you can just see some of it's taproot, the slight yellowing, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Twice a month would be a good watering schedule.

Now THIS is a sick peyote. If lesions or softness is happening, then you have a real issue.

I dunno, this one looks like it's rotting...

Either way, it looks like you're over watering.
