ID needed - Brisbane

Hey guys, I'm really new to all of this but a few friends of mine have been very keen lately on trying to get their hands on some magic mushrooms. So a friend and I went looking today around a cow paddock in Brisbane, looking in cow dung and around creek areas to see if we could find anything. This is what we found:
http://i.imgur.com/RLNw2.jpg
Habitat: We found these near a lot of cow dung, in damp, moist grass and soil. There were shrooms of all ages around, but we tried to pick only the biggest, 'ripest' looking shrooms
Gills: Darkish brown
Stem: 5-6cm long, about 1cm wide
Cap: 5-6cm, dark brown
Spore print color: I'm new to this, and I haven't got one
Bruising: We tried to bruise them but they didn't change colour much at all. This got our hopes down, but you never know!
Anyways, any ID or information would be excellent. We left a lot of them in-tact so we can go back and grab some more. Unfortunately I can't take any more pictures as they have been damaged quite badly in my bag... but we can and will go and get more if there's a good chance that they're magic.
Thanks in advance,
nelz

Not easy to ID through that bag and if left in there will rot.
Maybe Agrocybe species.
Definitely not active.

For the record, Psilocybe cubensis doesn't just grow near cow crap. It grows directly on it. If you didn't find your mushrooms on the dung itself, then they're not Psilocybe cubensis.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well it was our first venture, so it's better than nothing. Could you possibly give us any tips as to how to find active ones? We have been researching but we can't get definitive answers for our area/climate - i.e. when and where to go in the Brisbane area.
Sorry if that violates any rules of this forum, but we're desperate!
And of course we know that. But there are more species than just cubensis...

Well, they can grow next to cow dung. Not every single specimen necessarily has to grow directly from a patty, but this is a rare exception and if none of the mushrooms out of a whole bunch grow from the patty then what you said certainly applies 100%.

Well, after a bit of rain, Psilocybe cubensis will grow on cow dung, in the right season. Not sure when that season is.
Psilocybe subaeruginosa grows in wood chips in certain parts of Australia throughout your Autumn and early winter. Not sure what parts of Australia those are.
There are more but I'm no expert on Aussie actives. They're the main two.

Technically true, of course, but I don't think you'll help with the OP's wishful thinking instilling that attitude. Better to let him look for and find some on dung first, then once he knows the species well, he'll recognise any not growing on dung.

An overview on how to find Psilocybin mushrooms.
As you can see, there is a whole sticky dedicated to this question (it's located only 3-4 lines above your thread), it has been answered in a million previous posts and we have a search engine. Google does, too. There are also at least a few dozen books on the subject.

Thanks for your help but that guide is virtually useless. And of course I have tried Google and the like - I'm not that stupid. It's just that everything I find pertains to places other than Brisbane, where the climate and seasons are totally different - hence the 'useless' call.

You should get a few hundred results to sift through. Not sure if any are useful.
I know how a search works, but thanks for assuming I don't. I've looked, and nothing is very useful. I guess the only way is to be persistent. It's a shame that we can't share locations on this forum though, as it would really take a lot of the guess work out of it.

I'm not assuming you don't, but I know you're new and I was trying to help. If that's your attitude then shove it.

Maybe what you need is a book called "How to Find Psychedelic Mushrooms in Brisbane" with an introduction saying "Dedicated to nelz", written by Lemmy X. Plain, author of such bestsellers as "How to Tie Your Shoes", "Lemmy's 101 on How to Get Off the Bus at the Right Station" and "Light - an Amazing Invention That Makes you See More".

Or maybe I just need someone who lives in Brisbane to view my thread specifically made for people from Brisbane to help me find mushrooms in Brisbane.
Getting sick of joining forums and asking questions only to be told to "use teh search fgt" and shit like that. Of course I'm searching - why would I make an account which takes 10x as long as searching if I had found what I needed in a search?
Sorry if I seemed rude, but I hope that explains it. I just want some simple answers, and if you guys don't have them, then why post?
Thanks for your help guys

We do have answers. Our answers are more general because we don't live in Brisbane, but we answer anyway because we see someone in need of help and want to offer it in any way possible, to the maximum of our ability, no matter how meagre that help may seem to someone who's a complete arsehole.

Sorry if I seem like an arsehole to you guys, it's just I told you I had already searched.. so from that you thought it would be a good idea to completely spell out how to perform a basic forum search... where I come from that's patronising, but hey.
Thanks for the help guys (no sarcasm, legit). I'll keep hunting and see what I can find.

You said you'd looked on Google, which is why I was telling you how to use the Shroomery's own search -- because it doesn't exactly jump out at you.
Then I assumed maybe you weren't really computer savvy and I explained how to use the search page. I didn't know you'd already been through all 334 results.

That's it Forgive the other posters in this thread their somewhat condescending replies. If you know how many kids we got here every week registering and then going all cranky because nobody can (or is willing to) point them to the exact location of a turd covered in hallucinogenic mushrooms. But you got it: persistence is key. Mushroom hunting is something that you learn best through experience; it's almost impossible to learn it from a book.

I certainly wasn't being condescending and I resent any such notion. I was merely trying to help.

True, well I guess we'll keep trying. Just how rare are these things? Do most people find them within 2-3 tries or are they a little bit more exclusive than I've been led to believe?
