Dung beetles
    #14504997 - 05/24/11 03:05 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys. Im about to start an LC and plan on spraying it on horse poo on private property. Now i notice that there are dung beetles all over the poo out there. Would they be a problem?

what kind of LC? as in what species? im guessing Psilocybe cubensis? if you do it right, there will be enough mushrooms to feed and keep those beetles high for millennium to come. they might nibble at them but i wouldnt be worried. and also this:

Yes Psilocybe Cubensis, I plan on going around hitting up some patties and then doing a mix of horse and cow poo with straw on top of wood shavings on top of fertile soil, under a large covering.
Sound legit? lol

Also if i were to do this with copes would it be the same process?
And sorry for stupid posts, i need my post count up. so might as well get some info whilst trying to get to the 60 mark...

What're the wood shavings for and where abouts do you live?

Was just wondering because I'm not sure those species will grow outdoors in every state... if indeed the OP does live in USA.

Ancient Egyptians used to worship Dung Beetles, and you know what they say about ancient sacraments (and those wild Egyptians). I suspect the bugs harbor some interesting defense chems (or they collected them and fed them some interesting fungi and then ate them).

Im in FL
Ive done my fair share of research my man.

Unlike most of these one time posters that disappear over after an id request with blurry photos and no info.lol

The wood shavings are from the stalls in the barn.
i figure they will keep some moister in since we arnt getting ANY rain.
I plan on watering daily.

Would mixing spores with LC just be a waste?

If this does work, how long till i would see fruits?

On the contrary, I believe wood shavings are quite porous and will remove moisture from the substrate. Pubs over here used to use cover their hardwood floors with sawdust to soak up spillages.

If you want to stop moisture from escaping, how about an airtight container?

Eh, thats a little noticeable lol.
I just want cubes to grow on my land.

And im not talking saw dust powder, im talking horse bedding soaked with water...keeping humidity in.

I'm still not convinced that anything that soaks water will keep humidity in.

I dunno, though. This discussion belongs on the cultivation forum.

its pretty hard to get cubensis to fruit on horse manure that isnt prepared
youd have better luck in a cow field

or collecting the horse manure and using it :pirate:

Squirting LC on some poo/wood/straw outdoors is highly likely to fail. Your chances would be much better using a lot of grain spawn mixed into a bed of the manure, etc.

Ummm... Wood chips are used to help slow down moisture and nutrient migration in well drained soils, as they will absorb and hold onto it; then slowly release it. Meaning; they help keep it right there, instead of being washed/drained away. They are a slow nitrogen release as well. I would suggest mixing sawdust, 1~2in chips and everything in between; for your initial bedding, as far as wood chips go. Be sure to avoid cedars, redwood, pines and the like. Fir might be okay, for some species, if aged (iirc)...

Hope this helps :-)
