used/spent coffee grounds

when using coffee grounds. after I use them I've been air drying them immediately after brewing the coffee. then place it in a bag that was sterile the first time I used it. I'll be pressure cooking it before mixing in my spawn (along with coir and verm.) So, the question is. So far does everything I'm doing sound right, and do I need to strain the grounds until the water is clear or is one trip through the coffee maker fine?

Don't sterilize them!
Before I knew any better prior to my 1st couple projects, I received some bad advice instructing to PC the spent coffee and I got trich very quickly.
You want to instead mix all of your substrate together, get to proper moisture, then load into jars/bags/vessel and pasteurize all of it at 140-160F for 90-60 minutes with respect to temp. & time.

to do that I would need to get a cooking thermometer and slowly raise the temperature of the pot I was doing it in, wouldn't I. The boiling point is around 200f and pressure cookers are even higher. Is this how I should do it, or do you know a better way?

Yeah dude don't sterilize substrates, you can do it but it's something to the effect of cooking a piece of raw chicken in the microwave as opposed to the oven.. it will be edible but probably not what you are hoping for.

hahaha, man ive used coffee maybe every way you can
i like it with my grains
but youre doing everything right as far as collecting your spent grounds.
if youre not using for awhile, dry them out, cuz they mold quick if not!
no need to sterilize before mixing the grounds with the rest of your substrate.
and also no need to worry about getting the coffee leached enough, you can use it straight if you were...
you can ALSO brew a few pots of coffee, and heat that with the water you plan to pasteurize your substrate in (if of course youre using a bucket and pouring in boiling water, to pasteurize )

so, it's true? You can pasteurize just by pouring boiling water into a bucket and putting a lid on?

what do you mean? did you or I say something wrong? IU'm confused cause that didn't answer my question. can you pasturize just by pouring boiling water on it?

So if you took WBS and used it to spawn some coir/manure/coffee grounds once it was fully colonized. what would you use to case it? could you just pour some verm on top and soak it? No I never heard different. I always heard it your way but I didn't think putting it in a tub of boiling water would be enough. I'm VERY new to this so I'm not going from experience. just hunches and what I've learned on here. Been learning alot and asking ALOT of questions. hell it's only been 2 months and I've got 139 posts and most are questions. So, yeah don't mind me I just THOUGHT it wouldn't do it.

dont get too far ahead of yourself. get a colonized bulk substrate before you even think casing. and then decide if you want to bury that beautiful snowy substrate
i never case, my uncle insists that in casing lies the secrets to contaminate prevention. i case outdoors, but not tubs. and dunk and roll cakes
if youre going to use boiling water, make sure you have the substrate in a pillow case, or cheese cloth, or paint strainer. usually pour the water into the sub bucket, but you could put the sub into your pot of boiling water just the same. make sure the heat is off. you want your water temp dropping about 20 degrees almost immediately. pouring really helps with this.

so if you don't case it what do you do? Let's say I used WBS to spawn coir/manure/coffee grinds would I just put it in my shot gun and fruit it in a tray? would I put some plastic wrap over top? Would I mist directly on the fruiting sub like you would a casing?

you are confused between doing cakes and bulk. they use separate types of fruiting chambers. by the sound of your words... you are doing bulk, so do not build a SGFC
you do not need to case cubes, but you may eventually want to try it out. for starters, don't.
here's a video on spawning that might help. I think the plastic wrap is overkill. from Prof_P
and here's some fruiting chambers for bulk ohmatic monotub Doc_T's mini monotub MorelMan's pyramid M_H2004&DocT's we want to see your ...tubs
hope that helps... keep reading

yes this will work even with poo, but your better off bringing to field capacity, bagging it up and doing it in a large pan wiht a meat probe. Much less mess, and better results.
I've done quite a few monotub tho just by chucking 180F water into a large wine container with my sub, wrapped in blankets, only problem is you gotta squeeze out all the extra water, therefore losing good nutes adn creating an unholy poo mess.

No, you can not. Pasteurization involves slowly heating a substrate to 140F and keeping it there for an hour or so, without allowing it to exceed 160F. Pour boiling water on any material that has coffee grinds in it and you'll have green mold before it ever colonizes.
Proper pasteurization is no secret. It's been around for decades. RR
