Just answer the following question
if you don't care to read entire post.
_____________________________________________________________ QUESTION: WHAT CONTAINER(S) DO YOU USE TO NUKE / STERILIZE IN? _____________________________________________________________
Hello shroomery,
I'm not big on posting for various reasons , but I have been extremely curious about this one, to see what others personally use and substitute when it comes to
Microwaving (nothing special) i.e.
- Verm - Coir / Verm - Coir / hpoo / verm - Coir / cpoo / verm - Coir / BK / verm - Coir / dehydrated poo flakes / verm / buffers - Coir / poo / verm / coffee / buffers
E T C
I want to keep it short and cute due to lack of time on my behalf.
I use 3 microwaves simultaneously to nuke batches such as damion's coir method which I use the majority of the time.
Please refrain from flaming, I know nuking is not always necessary, there are some occasions where I do pasteurize with turkey bags when I have more time.
Regardless of what product I use to microwave, whether it claims it is "microwave safe" or not, whether its made from polysterene, other plastics, bags, glass, ceramic, whatever... It always get's destroyed someway shape or form during the nuke process.
Yes, I've tried the container, in another container suspended in water numerous times and alot of the times the container melts and leaks the water, to where it just creates a larger mess.
Not that it bothers me that much because I usually just buy the cheaper containers now, let them get warped/melted, and scrape off the reminants with a fork/spatula and move on. But, it does get a little frustrating having to clean my microwaves after every run even though I rarely get contams up to at least second flush.
FYI They're all different brand names, sizes, max power output; But, I usually keep it uniform to high power, and run 3 minutes a piece, sit a minute to five minutes, repeat 3 times, sometimes 4 if there are larger loads.

Hey,
I have used the micro when I tried the baby bottle LC tek.
It worked, but I have not used it again since.
I think that it would be difficult to get a sub into pasteurization ranges, and keep them it there, using a microwave.
Take care,
JD

Do you double wrap them? Triple wrap? Cheap brand or more expensive like Reynolds?

Put substrate into oven bag, tie up with twist tie and boil/cook at 160 degrees for 2 hours (on the stove in a pot)

Thanks for the help guys, but like I said I really don't have time to pasteurize, substrate bag after substrate bag EVERY time...
Having multiple microwaves speeds things up exponentially with the amounts I'm working with;
and not every time am I using poo so pasteurization isn't detrimental to my grows... and the majority of time I do its with BK which doesn't even really need pasteurization in which case I can get a hold of hpoo I do pasteurize in large batches.
Come on I know not 100% of people pasteurize...
What are people using in the microwave to survive 10 minutes + of nuking?
It looks like I'll just stick to the cheap packs of ziplock bowls and let them melt/warp like usual

PP5 plastic can be sterilized in a pressure cooker or autoclave. Nothing can be sterilized in a microwave so don't bother trying.

Glass will hold up for ten minutes, but most food won't. Regardless, it isn't a food cooking forum and filthy microwaves have no place in mycology. Parts of the substrate will be ruined by excess heat and others will never reach pasteurization temperature.
The end result will look like this.RR

Ive fucked up too many things nuking it, been out of the game in a while plus an unstable microwave and not enough testing.
So what grow developments have been made with microwaves ***** and sterilization, etc ***** in the past year or two i been gone :p

I think microwaves can be used in the right circumstances, but it would have to be a dedicated one of course, and everyone knows they operate completely different from one to the next microwave. Has anyone ever tried the industrial microwaves? Like the kinds they have in kitchens? The one at the retirement home i work at boils in less that 45 seconds... I wont forget the first time i thought i was going to get a slightly melted ice-cream out and ended up burning my hand and chocolatizing the whole microwave.

Yes, typically when I do just verm it browns the top slightly like julienne potatos, however the crates still pump out massive fruits.

Yep, Pyrex brand seems to not crack or pop even with crushed oyster/ buffers / sub etc.
Thanks fellas...
Not much implee, seems everyone is pretty adamant on pasteurization method (I pasteurize too), however this would take me weeks around the clock if I solely did this with the amounts I need.

Weeks? Build a 55 gallon pasteurizer. You can run a small farm with one of those. RR

Like the ones people use atop the propane burners?
How hard is the temperature to regulate?
Doesn't it spike all over the place or were you referring to something else?
Yes, I like this idea indeed, please do tell more.

I just discovered your recent boiler post RR
A pasteurizer of the like is something I plan to construct with minimal materials soon.
I like this idea of the drum over the burner(s), as I've seen this similarly with a more "poor man's" approach, which is what I'll probably be implementing.
I must say your innovative nature never ceases to amaze me, and really appreciate this contribution. Props on your build and boiler idea, as it stimulated a great idea for myself included.
