Yeah, as Alan Watts said "When you get the message, hang up the phone."
Psychedelics can be pivotal in your development as a person with the right mindset -- They can help you become more creative, reign in your ego, become more empathetic, and shrug off social conditioning...but be easy because HPPD sucks as does taking ten seconds to respond when someone speaks to you. Not everyone comes all the way back, which is fine if you want to be a Shaman but a deal breaker if you have bills to pay.
When people who are clearly hostile to the concept ask me about it I take the opportunity to debunk as many retarded myths about psychs as I can hold their attention for -- LSD being stored in your spinal fluid, mushrooms making you trip because they're poisonous, etcetera. If I manage to plant even the smallest seed of doubt about all of that nonsense then that's mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. To those who actually want to hear about it I say that I can't properly describe the visual aspects, but that it allows me to step outside of it all for a while and view myself, those around me, and society as an observer rather than a participant, or that if I'm feeling less cerebral I can get my childlike sense of wonder back for a while and go exploring in the woods (often both on the same trip!) I also compare it to a dream in that you can obtain profound, mind blowing insight that you struggle to retain it as you return to normal.
It's a pity that religious people are often the most entrenched against psychedelic drug use because legitimate spiritual experiences are waiting there to be had.
1. Take psychedelics 2. Cut out the middle man 3. ??? 4. Profit.

I've more or less stopped trying to describe the psychedelic experience to people who aren't already on board. Preaching makes you look like a drug addict or an idiot in the eyes of people who aren't interested in psychedelics. They simply don't know what they're missing, at all, and they're A-OK with that.
On the other hand, I do have some close friends who are non-trippers with whom I feel comfortable discussing my trips. But again, I stopped going around trying to convince people a long time ago. The vast majority of people are simply not down with it.

i tell them straight up that the experience cannot be adequately described in words, that they have to try them to really know. other than that i like to tell them that the main change is a shift in perspective regarding practically everything they are involved in. i also try to stress that its not all about the cascading unicorns with rainbow hair that might show up, that visuals come with experience and higher doses and that the first noticeable effects are more subtle than they will be expecting.
depends on the person though. with jeebus freaks and brick walls i don't bother wasting my breath.

I usually talk about DMT, how it completely throws a reality-curveball your way and collapses all your dualism and would seem to suggest, through the mindfuck it engenders, that your experiencing-ness is not dependent upon your physical body.
Sometimes I try to describe the visuals but I don't honestly think the visuals are the most important part of the trip. They're kind of incidental to the stuff I mentioned above. They're absolutely stunningly gorgeous but it's usually hard to describe them in more detail than "kaleidoscopic fractals dude."

I tell them to eat them like skittles.
Especially if they have a family history of schizophrenia.
And that they're only good for getting fucked up.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I never talk about psychedelics around people that don't do them. No point really.
I've come to the realization that most people just need to figure it out for themselves, and if they don't then o well.

I feel blessed I am not closed off to the psychedelic experience and it's life changing ramifications. I think our world will one day reach a point where we give 18 year olds psychedelics as part of some coming of age ritual or something or the sort. Until then, I feel people out before I go into this stuff. Some people are so irrationally and vehemently against "drugs."

Yeah the person who introduced me to psychedelics was basically ignorant of what they were and did them cause of the cool visuals and basically everything I know comes from my own experiences and research. Anyone who's gonna be interested in them is gonna find out about them one way or another and take them with or without your help.
I did have an impact on my first roomate in college. He was a big pothead and I told in depth about all my drug experiences and I helped him to understand drugs better, and when he did shrooms for the first time he said it was exactly as how I said it would be and he ended up having an amazing trip even though he went into the middle of downtown DC. D:
Glad I could help someone see the light but now I really dont give a shit about telling anyone anything about psychs cause people just dont understand

Yeah. There's no use in trying to convert anybody. The only people who should be taking psychedelics are the ones that go out on a limb to learn about them and acquire them and do it responsibly. Anybody that you need to convince or that has no prior interest...Well honestly I'd wait until that person is begging me for a dose before giving it to him.
So what if some idiot thinks LSD makes your brain bleed. He'd love to argue with a dumb druggy with a brain full of holes. He already knows nothing you say is of any value in his mind, so why try? He'll walk away thinking you're a loser no matter what you say. The best thing you can do is keep your mouth shut around those kind of people.
