ID Request from a CT Farm...
    #14506254 - 05/24/11 07:20 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Spent a beautiful day hiking through the woods, and we came on a pasture in the middle of the woods that seems to be farm land, and we found something neat... can someone please offer an identification?

Habitat:
A Horse Pasture in CT. Good soil with grass... some of the field was mulched and growing big clusters of Marasmius, probably Oreades. The non-mulched areas were just patches of grassy pasture. The mushrooms grew in little clusters of 3 - 7, kind of tight. They dropped spores all over each other.

Gills:
Chocolate Brown gills, might be adnate? They look attached to me.

Stem:
2 - 3 inches?, brown, feeling solid,

Cap:
Silver dollar sized to quarter sized, brown to honey with patches of black spore droppings texture, bell shaped when mature, kinda nipply before they drop their spore.

Spore print color:
Early signs point to black based on the droppings onto the caps. Print is still pending, and I'll attach it if it's needed.

Bruising:
Nothing really noticable. Black spores were present on a lot of stems. Such a messy little cluster

Do they have a range in CT? I didn't even know they grew here.

Sorry, you're in England ;x. CT is an abbreviation for a state "Connecticut"

Well, I guess they must grow there because that's what you found.
