Hey guys, so for those of you who know what i am talking about...
When wbs is too wet when its put into jars, then gets that fermented rotten smell to it. Is this considered contam? because the myc has colonized ~90 pecent of the jar, with no sign of any contam other than the wet rotten wbs on the bottom. Question is, are these jars fucked? Basically, i know the smell is due to fermenting grains and high moisture, but does this destroy the entire jar.
I have had success scaping off the fermenting wbs under running water and spawning the healthy myc, but i wanted others opinions.

I doubt it. But if it IS too fuckered to continue colonizing, I bet you can still G2G the stuff ontop.

yeah, i had some that stalled completely due to high water content. I birthed em anyways, rinsing off/scraping off all the shitty slimey rotten wbs, and spwaned it. Monotub went 100% fine.
Just wondering if i got lucky or if fermenting wbs is safe

Same thing happened to us once and the end result was just fine. I wouldn't be too concerned about saftey unless an obvious contam piggy backs on the wettest stuff.

Sounds like what you are describing is a bacterial contam. It is possible for mycelium to colonize grain with a little bit of bacterial contamination but it will take much longer and it's usually best to just throw it out.
Usually this is caused as you said by grain being to wet, and yes it is a contam, and quite an annoying one to since it will happen regardless of how sterile you were if your grain is to wet.
I have had minimal success scraping off jars with a tiny bit of bacterial contam but I'd expect it to fail.

well i got rid of everything touching the rotten grain, including close myc growth, i just took the healthy stuff and it worked

the smell you describe is a bacterial contamination. often people think they are spawning clean grain when in fact it has become bacterial. you can get fruits off bacterial spawn when it is transferred to bulk, but yields will suffer and it is more prone to other contaminants. I wouldn't waste my time with it and just refine my grain prep procedure. I do not care for WBS due how dirty it is, however many on here swear by it.

I rinsed my TSC Producers Pride oats one time and after I saw it run clear from the get go, I have not rinsed again.

After trying wbs a few times, I gave up on it and moved on to wbr and popcorn. You can't get much cleaner than thoughs. So when I tried oats for the first time, I assumed they were dirty like wbs.

Yes, because I wanted to prep it the same way I did wbs to compare.
I guess I got a dirty bag of producers pride.

Thats what I'm thinking, not sure about producers Prides quality control. Also different areas, I'm on the east coast.
