Possible Pluteus atricapillus?
    #14505791 - 05/24/11 05:55 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat: Cluster is under a Japanese Yew, coming out of an "Old home" pear tree rootstock (Tree was pulled out, shoots & mushrooms are coming up from the roots)

Cap: ~1-3", darker tan around edges, lighter towards middle, dry.

Gills: Closely spaced, white, no veil visible

Stalk: unremarkable, cream colored

Cluster under Yew:

About 5ft away from Yew:

Spore prints of older one about 5ft from Yew, and one from cluster under Yew, respectively.

As you can see, the gills of the more mature one are much darker.

Are they the same? Different? Pluteus atricapillus?

Thanks ahead of time.

Mr.T

They're probably all the same. Psathyrella. Pluteus has "pink" spore prints. I'd call these prints brown.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

I'd say Psathyrella candolleana looking at the far left specimen in the uppermost photograph.

Yeah that looks right. I was curious as to whether the far left one was a different species, or just much younger.

Just younger, I think.
