I have had ADHD/ADD all my life. I've kinda just worked with it, and taken a few instant release pills whenever I have to focus for a test, essay, or to study This has gotten out of hand. I am on 30mg of ritalin at this moment. I feel DRUGGED I have two tests tomorrow and an essay due on friday I hate this feeling, and I have this exact thought everytime I take ritalin I have been taking it back to back days, and I just don't feel like myself when Im on it When I finally sober out after my work, smoke a joint and finally muster the energy to eat, I feel like I am finally becoming sane Not only am I addicted, but the only thing sustaining my high college grades are these medications
How do I stop? What can I use to substitute this medication? Anybody else with ADHD/ADD?

Meditate! Meditation clears the mind and focuses ones self to an extreme degree of sharpness! See if you can't meditate for a few minutes a day, and gradually increase the amount of time that you meditate.

Change your diet dude. If you eat too much sugar you'll have excessive amounts of energy and that causes a very speedy mindset. Going on a ketogenic diet helps you stay more relaxed and calm so that is one option for you.
Meditation as already mentioned helps a lot. Exercise is also a good form of meditation that you can employ, art as well falls into this category. The objective of these are to shut off your mind and be completely absorbed in the present moment, not to become ripped or create some amazing work of art.
Also, I recently did sungazing and that helped marginally with mental clarity. Give it a try, but make sure you read on it before you do it. It can potentially lead to injury if done during the middle of the day.
Hope this helped somewhat. And don't believe that just because you've been diagnosed with something you can't change it. The great thing about the human mind is that it can change itself and morph into something shapeless and new.

All great responses, I really think the combination of all the things Moxy talks about would really benefit. Go into life with a strong mindset, if you really would like to help yourself then get to it!
-------------------- Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us all. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
