Keep your friends close!
    #14504151 - 05/24/11 12:14 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Keep your next meal even closer.

I get a kick out out how people project that these two animals are expressing love and friendship. Maybe they are and maybe they are not. Insufficient data from a single photo.

Remember The Grizzly Man who thought the bears loved him? Yes, they loved him to death. *MUNCH*

He never thought the bears loved him. He loved the bears. Your posts are getting a little senile there boy. :archiebunker:

What do I win when I come up with a quote to the contrary?

Not the quote I was looking for, but Treadwell was a true prophet as evidenced by this prediction: "I will die for them, but I will not die at their claws and paws."

I think he used to post at M&P...

David Letterman to treadwell: "We're not going to open a newspaper one day and read about you being eaten by a bear, are we?

That grizzly man thing was pretty wild up until he got eaten. He treated them like dogs and it wasn't until he met a legitimately hungry one that he got eaten.

Treadwell said he would not harm a bear - even if he was being eaten, and would never use a gun to defend himself. I bet he changed his mind on that while being gnawed on for 6 minutes while begging for his life. Funny how reality tramps on ideals.

As to Icey's challenge, I accept defeat for the first time ever on S&P. Treadwell never said the bears loved him, he said they shared a bond.

You think he lasted long enough to change his mind?

Is this a distraction due to your inability to come up with a quote to back your claim?

Seems like you tend to accuse others of these tactics. :nono:

You really don't know what you are talking about?  Seems like a very common thing in this thread.

Just because one sees does not mean they comprehend.

I read the book and saw the doc.  In no way did he treat bears like dogs. Had he, he would not have been able to live among them in close proximity for so many years. The fact that he died seems to have been due to carelessness on his part.  A race car driver who drives for years may in a moment of lost concentration die in a crash. But do we mock him?

I'd like to see you do anything with your life on a level to compare.

Of course, because we are so glad we are still here. You probably are unfamiliar with a concept called Death Anxiety...

Well actually I thought of that but it was kind of a pearls before swine thing so I didn't bring it up.

Anyone watching the vid or reading the book should be convinced that this guy had great courage and cared a lot about what was happening to the Grizzly bear population.  The fact that after thousands of days living with them he got taken out does not seem too surprising to me.  He made some basic errors where he should of known that he was being emotional rather than rational. He didn't follow his own rules about living around bears.

Your point is well taken.  He gets mocked due to, imo, people being threatened by someone doing something that they wouldn't have the guts for on their best day. Good observation Swami.:satansmoking:

Many 'real' bear lovers were very pissed at Tim for blatantly disregarding park rules. In addition to being the first human fatality in 85 years in the park, he also caused his beloved bear to be put down by rangers.

Now back to the original photo. Is the bear hugging the dog out of friendship and love?

If you remember the story that was not one of "his" bears. (the ones he knew personally) If I remember correctly that bear was starving and had not gone into hibernation due to lack of body fat. All "his" bears had gone to bed for the winter.

Anyway to answer your question. From looking at the body language and expressions on the dogs and bears face I would say it's a fairly safe bet to call them good buddies.

Whether it was his bear or not is not relevant to the fact that his disregard for policy led to three deaths which seems counter to his purpose.
