What kind of contamination is in my jar? [photo]

I've tried a few times but have never got my mycelium to really take off. I'm using the PF Tek method and after a while the mycelium in this jar ended up turning blackened. I have got others to grow past this point and when I put them in my fruiting chamber they just seem to stop growing - I think it's a lack of gas exchange.
I'm going to try using a myco bag this time around but I'm really interested in finding out what that black stuff is, and what's causing it.
Thanks for any info.

i dont know brother, but are your noc holes uncovered?
that could be your cause, but im not sure what the fuck the black could be. the plague?
before you try bags, maybe make some different lids. look into some RTV silicon for noc ports and tyvek for a filter; myc likes to breath and be solitary.
(if it cant breath FILTERED air, it will stall. if there are ANY uncovered opening, it will get contamed)

I'm using a tyvek filter but it could be from the needle piercing it I guess. Thanks for taking a look.

just a piece of tyvek under the rim? (rim is the threaded part. i know it has another name, but idk what it is)
when i do that, i cover the noc hole with the sticky part of a fabric band aid. ive also learned that the myc doesn't like to grow on the top when there is that much GE.
i dont want you to have to admit failure just cuz of some nasty black stuff. Glad (i think) or Ziplock makes a 1/4 pint container that I LIVE BY. they are clear with blue lids, you can PC them, and its super easier to mod the lids.
the middle part is rised with a valley closer to the edge, so i put the filter in the middle and the noc port in the valley. then, while noccing, i dont pull the needle all the way out, and just rotate the lid to the next noc site.
they colonize faster too cuz they are smaller, and if they get fucked up, pitching them is not so much skin off your nose.
i mean, do what you want, but i dont want to see you abandon a great tek just cuz you've had bad results. switch it up for next time and we can get this things workin for you...
if in doubt, feel free to PM me.
