Went for a walk earlier this afternoon and spotted various types of fungi/mushrooms.
I took some pics of my surroundings and the mushrooms themselves. I took my dog for walk and didn't have any intentions of looking for any, then I stumbled across some and then found myself curiously rummaging around for more haha.
Hopefully this is a sign that I might be in for some luck when I start looking for subs in a different location I have in mind for the weekend.

You seem to have a good understanding of the basics
uh not quite

the poster didn't even know the season. they hadn't even read enough of the thread to know that subs are fruiting right now. not sure how you made that assumption
all you have to do chasetrance is read the other SA threads from previous years including looking at the photos and you will know exactly what they look like and even where to go. and it's fun even! so how about that for research? also note that SA subs look different to subs from other states so you should look at SA photos

are you meant to be going for Psilocybe subaeruginosa? these pics are blurry as hell you can't make out hardly any detail ... but these look like Paneolina foenisecii? banded cap, thin stem, growing on grass. anyone agree?

Lord of the gnomes, bad form in your response to the photography tips.
I'm definitely not trying to tell you what to do or not, but my opinion is that if the photo's are not at a reasonable quality for all to see and look at, then why upload? For yourself? That's what your photos folder is for.
Anyway, not trying to aggravate you or anything, just letting you know that I think that negative responses like that to someone trying to give tips is not useful to anyone.
Lets keep the peace guys

And the pictures don't need to be at a "high" standard. Just a standard that allows clear photos. A standard that all general photos should be taken at.
Just letting you know, is all.

None of those are P, subaeruginosa.

Mr. F said: Lord of the gnomes, please get a better camera or learn to focus. I'm hardly the best photographer but those last pictures are almost useless :/ For example don't stand up and take a photo with one hand, it's gonna turn out blurry as fuck, instead kneel down and support your camera using your other arm. I personally lie on the ground and support both my elbows on the ground for stability.
I appreciate your contributions but it pains me to see those photos. You couldn't tell those mushrooms from an LBM yet they're labled as subaeruginosa. If a newbie saw your photos they may mistake an LBM for a sub.
Sorry for being grumpy.

His response is exactly what I would have expected and probably similar to the response I would have given if somebody had a direct go about my posts in that manner.
This isn't a photography thread, it's not even an actives only thread. I would assume lord of the gnomes posts his pictures to share his finds, and cares little about photography. On a side note I have seen far worse photography on this site.
As for help it's only helpful when it's wanted. I am sure if lord of the gnomes wanted photography tips he would post in the mushroom photography tips thread stickied at the top of this forum.
If people trying to ID Psilocybe subaeruginosa from a thread labeled as "inactives" and also fail to look at any of the clearer shots and more importantly not get a proper ID on something they are unsure of then it's pretty much completely their own fault imho.
/end wall of text.

Oooo, a bit of drama in the thread: most exciting thing I've come across all day. It appears that my day has been more depraved than the little disagreement about what was or was not correct to say and the appropriate response for such... And now that this matter is being discussed in the public domain, I'll now add my 2-bobs worth:
Everyone should be pricks to each other about all the tiny little flaws with their post style more often. That way the thread gets more frivolous arguments that we can all participate in and pick sides and waste copious amounts of energy posting into. It'd be a great way, for those of us who can't get into the special thread that only members with >100 posts can access, to get our post rates up. Should also be good for a few cheap laughs.

But yea, seriously: I can understand the response given the initial put-down. Tips are fine, but no need to belittle the guy's camera / skills out in the public discussion. Most of us just don't give a damn - and we're not likely to accidentally stumble across that fragment of information and make decisions to eat LBMs. Any noob that dumb is a good tip for a Darwin award I reckon .
There, see what you guys did...? gave me excuse to post a long-winded pointless rant. Hope you're happy.

Compared to some other newbies he seems fine; i had a friend come out for his first time today and even after multiple explanations he still managed to rip the mushrooms right out of the group bringing the mycelium with them and even somehow managed to pick the wrong ones

They are going to be eaten within 24 hours so i'ts not going to be much of an issue, the bags were only used to make them easier to split up and carry around

Hey guys im new here, and this is my first season hunting. Ive been following this thread for the last month or so trying to gather as much research as i can about subs (and inactive mushrooms) in South Australia. Ive been on plenty of failed hunts (still had fun though) however last saturday me and my mate finally found our first batch of subs in the south adelaide area It was a pretty great moment and we probably wouldnt have done it without the help of this thread, so cheers guys Here are some pics of our find:

We found about 20 all up (not heaps, but i was stoked anyway). Found them in grassy eucalypt mulch.
My mate posted an ID request for them here
Cant wait for the next find!
