What is your location? So jealous. When have you been finding them? You must be in one of those few areas that the thunderstorms have been proliferating so far this summer. All about where that sea breeze meets.

just to clear things up. this thread is for those states that touch the gulf. you do not have to be on the "coast" to post in this thread. whether you live in eastern fl. or northern alabama it's all good. so, florida, alabama, mississippi, louisiana, texas and mexico...i can't wait to see your finds.

The 352 has been dry as a bone I still haven't picked wild shrooms yet. I haven't even seen, nor tripped on, real shrooms yet, I've only seen pictures. This dry spell sucks.

i guess it was decided on subtropicus (which is supposedly not active) from earlier finds. however, i found some blue bruising pins to indicate activity on previous occasions.
i have about 30 grams dry right now.

813. It rained for 2 days straight. Theshape brought me to a field and we could see shrooms for miles it was the most beautiful thing ever. I regret not staying and getting more but we didn't want to get greedy. Hopefully you guys will stumble upon great fortune like we did.

Thanks for the precipitation links in this thread. After looking at them yesterday I decided to go check a spot after work. I was glad I did.
I saw lots of cube pins and lots of aborts. I ate 6 or 7 cubes in the field. I love doing that. That might be why my picture quality is lacking somewhat...hmmmm...yeah that's it. I brought a couple pinning patty's home to get a few more. I'll update on their progress.

it's been a rough season so far man. it's in the making though. can't rush mother nature. it seems as if everything is slowly but surely picking up. keep on hunting and good luck.

umm. never really thought about it. great idea though. let me try and figure out how to do it.
i searched through all my functions and can't figure it out. i'm going to look it up on the net and see if i can do it.
i have a sony cyber shot 10.1 megapixel dsc-s950 steady shot.
any ideas??

it seems as if my camera doesn't have that funtion. i have to dl some software (which i am doing) and then you have to do it manually.
i'm getting a new camera soon anyway. i've broken 2 in the past year and i'm working on my 3rd. maybe i'll go and get one today... i'll make sure to get one with the time-stamp function. totally bad-ass idea.

I searched and searched online and found this info:
In Sony DSC-S950, press Menu button, go to Setup menu, Clock settings and adjust time and date, press OK, press Menu button to exit.
I hope that works for you and glad you liked the idea...I really like it when looking back at my photos from a couple years ago!

you can set the date and time but it isn't displayed when you look at or upload the picture. weak. so i can't time-stamp the photo just using the camera. i'm just going to go get a new one. hopefully i can do that today. thanks for looking though, i appreciate it. soon my new pictures will be with a new camera.

thanks man. i love that little fucker. where are you located? this summer has been horribly dry. i think things will start to pick up soon though weather wise. google earth is a great place to find fields. try to find fields with life. trees, berries, grass, rich soil, some shady areas, some open areas and oh yeh, cows. stay away from littered dry, sandy fields. they will do you no good. don't forget about the woods either. you can find some awesome edibles, gyms and other interesting fungi in the bush. but, if you are looking for actives...stick to the cow fields, horse stables and horse fields.
golf courses are horrid places to pick mushrooms. they use so many chemicals and fertilizers you might as well wash your fungi down with drano.
if you have any other questions, let me know.

im from ohio, but plan to go to new orleans soon in a week or two. So since its soo hot out should i look along tree lines and shady spots in the fields? Given that new orleans is pretty damn near surrounded by water, it probably wouldnt need to rain if my right. Google earths a good idea, thank you.

regardless if it's surrounded by water or not, you are still going to need rain.
your best bet is to look 24-48 hrs. after the rain. however, since it's been so dry, i've noticed that cubes aren't really maturing until about 3 days after the rain. those cubes i picked yesterday were on day 2. notice how the veil is still partially in tact. some people prefer this and some people don't. some people like big fat mature cubes while others prefer them just as the veil is breaking. i like cubes just as the veil is breaking. if you want more bang for your buck, wait a little longer. but, the longer you wait the more risk you run. other hunters, animals and sun baked cubes are the risks you are taking, amongst other things. i have my own private field that i can choose to hunt whenever. this happens to work out very well for me. being that i hunt almost everyday (whether it's the woods or the fields), i can take my time and relax and not have to worry about other hunters and pissed off farmers. you are definitely going to have to look in the shadier areas of the field. areas with tall grass, tree cover and pine needles and/or leaves will provide cover and humidity for the fungi to flourish. hope this helps a little. once again, if you need anything...let me know. my name on aim is: digitalcubensis you can hit me up there anytime as well.
 peace and love bloodworm
p.s. you know you have actives in ohio right?
Ohio Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus luteus Panaeolus cinctulus Psilocybe caerulipes Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata

not at all man. i know i trip once a week on 4-5 grams and still have a lot dried. plus, i cook a lot with them fresh as well. this season hasn't been nearly as friendly as last season though. i'm pretty confident that things are going to start picking up very soon however.

I'm calling this hike a "death hike"...hot as hell, not much fungi, and I ran across 2 dead animals...I expected to see more growth...
cube

pan ant's...I haven't seen many of these lately

cube

dead cow

what is this? is this a dog? or a wilderbeast? hmmm...I was thinking how'd this fukker died? did something kill it? I am not sure...I've never seen any dogs or anything that looks close to this out there...it's got one heck of a mean, sharp looking grill on it...

this plant really stood out from everything else...anyone know what it is?

Well where i hunt at we have preety big black bears and too many alligators, which i have had encounters with both! and its not fun running from either!! as for being worried about the fuzz, you shouldnt be shrooming if your worried about getting caught. my fields are very vast with no farmers and noone with in distance to help you if u did get attacked.
I dont encourage anyone to bring out a weapon on a shroom hunt. I have reasons as to why i do. especially since i hunt alone.

i've considered getting a gun. there is some crazy ass shit out there. i've seen wild hogs, bear and wild dogs. all of which can and will kill you if given the opportunity. i've considered getting a concealed weapons permit just so i can, take a gun on a hunt. until then, i just carry around a big walking stick and hope to beat to death anything that threatens me. i also, hunt alone.

This is my first post on this site. I found it once I was compelled to start growing. However, I cannot get spores sent to Ga. (lame) So now I am trying to hunt for field shrooms to create my own syringes. A friend of mine and I went out the other night with no luck...we found some tiny tiny mushrooms on a couple patties, but no cubes. I have hunted only a handful of times over the course of 3 or 4 years never ever with any luck. I live in Statesboro (SE) Ga btw.

stay with it man. this summer has been dry as hell so far, so don't feel bad. ever use google earth to spot fields? seeing a steady growth of other fungi (2 examples being panaeolus antillarum and panaeolus papilionaceus) off the patties is a good sign as well. look for other life on the field as well. wild fruit, trees, green grass, good soil, flowers, cactus, etc.... look for fields where others wouldn't. because most likely, if you know about it... someone else does/did as well. but look for "your" field and be persistent. make it your own and you will be rewarded. good luck and keep hunting.

Those look great Blood! I am itching to get out and about, conditions have been perfect lately. If we can save up some money the next few weeks we might come down, we were in Destin last weekend but had no time/money to take a Gainesville detour like i was hoping to. Hope your good luck continues amigo!

I went out this morning kinda early to find no cubes, none at all. Pretty bummed gas & tolls aren't cheap. Anyway I hope someone does better and has better pics tham mine. The lens needed cleaned on this camera and it took some crappy pics. At least I found a small reishi and one unknown.
reishi

unkown slimy white cap when touched it turned color, this was after touching it...

then when I got home I had these waiting on me...

so I guess its not so bad.

I've been checking this pasture by a friends house which has a wonderful swamp area full of old decaying trees and consistent water exposure with the perfect amount of sunlight and of course plenty of organic patties. Anyways I've been scoping around this plethora of caps and in a few hours here ima head out to search the spoils. There are too many species to count. Between picture taking and trying not to step on any specimens this could take awhile but will upload the pics as soon as their ready. AH! SO stoked been searching bama consistently in all the wrong places for over a year now. Glad to have all the effort finally pay off in the place closest to home :P

Okay so my Shrek swamp adventure left me with impatience. I wasn't able to get out as early as i wanted due to an unexpected event i got out there around three pm. The mass i had witness just a short while ago had became victim to a good ole Bama heat wave. I've never seen clay dry up so dam quickly. I got what i could for future gathers and am waiting for some ID on them due to my lack of knowledge in the subject. Will post once I have everything organized. (Hope for some rain for meh

Hello everyone I am completely new at hunting and just got a field guide to mushrooms by the National Audubon Society and a pocket guide to familiar North American Species of Mushrooms today.
I was wondering if these guides are good enough for identifying mushrooms?
Also was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips to finding mushrooms. I have been walking fields and by streams for days now and not finding any kind of fungi at all. All I am really looking for in tips is really good places to look? Any help would graciously appreciated.. Thanks to all and happy hunting.
I am in the 903 area of Texas

Well we've been getting a nice amount of rain here in NW GA but ,I still haven't had a chance to get to the fields yet. My outdoor cube bed is finally pinning though. So that is a good sign.I got this one pic before my camera batteries died.

Still haven't been to the fields in Ga this season but, I'm having a little luck with this outdoor cube bed I've been working on. It has several strains mixed in so I'm not sure which these are but here is some pictures from this morning

not hard at all. if you don't mind poo in your house that is. why not just keep it outside? build a shotgun fc and keep the patties in there.

Thanks blood you've been like my go to reference since I've been on here! Well this pattie has been producing about 2-5 everyday which to me seems pretty quick and and after about two years of going back and forth with it I'm going to just attempt my first grow with some golden teachers. I was gonna grow from the patties but if I'm gonna do my first grow I'd want as little variables as possible. But at least this pie can provide me with enough happy juice till then. (giving that it keeps raining perfectly like clockwork) oh and one more question will growing result in my house smelling like mushrooms?

It's in SE GA near Savannah. It's no biggy, I went down to central Florida for a few days on Thursday and finally got some shrooms and had a light trip on some tea. It was quite pleasant.

The thing is, we used 2 dry grams and made tea (2 grams in each cup) and just felt incredibly stoned and had very light hallucinations for like, an hour, 2 hours tops. The only hallucinations included: Thinking everything behind my friend was on a green screen, thinking a movie was extremely vivid like I was watching it being filmed, and at one point it looked like the ceiling started bending upwards. I either made the tea wrong or I just needed more than 2 grams. I heard that 2 dry grams of cubes are enough for a good trip and I was expecting to get cubes but got these instead. I just want to know what they are so I can get the right dosage next time.

fo sho.... So now you know the potency of these particular ones& you can calculate your dosage based on that. I think the potency varies pretty widely from patch to patch on these, so its best to go from your previous experience. Just my $ .02!

Awesome! And yeah, that's what I thought they were but I wasn't completely sure. Our shrooms got a little beat up because of running and diving, part of the field was right next to a somewhat busy road, so they didn't look like much of the pictures I saw. Thanks for the help!

I'm thinking of either making tea again and using lemon juice and sugar or just making shroom powder and putting it in orange juice. But that won't be till I get shrooms again

OK, here's what I found. The only unit I didn't pick was the one @ the end. It was bigger than my hand. And, I didn't feel right about taking it without knowing if it was silly.
If anyone can ID these, that would be killer.
Thanks in advance.

rule #1: don't wear flip flops when hunting mushrooms.
are you searching cow fields? if you are looking for actives, you want to be looking in cow fields for cubes and copes or in the woods for gyms.
none of them are active.

Yeah, Bloodworm is right. NEVER wear flip flops. You may think that's stupid advice but when you have to run you're gonna regret wearing flip flops. And plus, some fields have wild cacti and tall grass so you can't even see the cactus. Them bitches hurt like hell.

Greeting BW,
I was just in my yard with the flops. No biggie.
The only active I ever knew about were the cow patty units we used to harvest back in the 80's. I'll never forget what they look like or how they smell and taste. (grape juice helps!).
But with the awesome internet now the info is more easily shared. The patty actives we used to get, we learned about from dudes about 5-10 years older than we were then.
But it does seem like there might be other actives out there based on what I've read.
Thing is, a friend of mine runs a farm out in GA. He told me cow feed now comes with fungicide in it. Kills the spores, and no MM. :-(
So frankly for me, I have no idea where to get them anymore. I thought of buying a cow, dying it purple, feed it 100% hay and grass, and just go berserk!
I'm quite the avid hiker, and well, I was a Marine, so I know how to be silent and hidden.
Any google map coordinates you know of would be helpful.
Thanks,
BC

I know someone that has a giant field but their grandpa started spraying the feed with fungicide shit ever since he caught them picking. Idk if there's feed with it already in it or not though. And not all feed has the fungicide in it.

That makes a lot more sense... I was finding it hard to believe that any farmer would spend his time/energy/money trying to prevent a few people from picking mushrooms. They usually got a lot more shit to worry about... But then again, I'm not from the south so

I'm going to find some cow patties and put them in my back yard!
BTW - walking around this morning, I found these. Pretty sure they are all duds. Let me know if anyone with experienced eyes sees anything.
I know where some Fly Acacia grow. Pretty sure they are blooming right now. I see it for sale sometimes online & in head shops. Is this a mushroom I should harvest?

Nice, any sign of Psilocybe mammillata?

Seems like the gulf coast states are on fire right now. At least Florida kicked it off proper...slow start in the spring but it's booming!

seriously I would not get bit there...they don't bite me. for real. real talk. just saying.
I've been out hunting with a lighter skinned friend and he had a cloud of mosquito's on him. biting his ass all over..I was lOl...i had a small cloud of them on me but no bites...and I don't use anything for them
I'm being serious...take me there...or come with me and I will prove it...they do not ever bite me.
I've been in the swamp, in the woods, in the field and they find me but they don't ever bite me...it could be my thick skin...idk
but for real they don't bite me
now no-see'ums on the other hand...bite me and piss me off...to me they're worse than 'skeeters.

If anyone could hook me up with a list and pictures of mushrooms that re active, that do grow in the Gulf Coast region of Alabama. That would be phenomenal. With all this rain we've been getting lately mushrooms have been sprouting non-stop, I just don't know what's safe or active. I live near a cow field full of fungal life, I can get somebody access to it if need be.

That's being an ass. No where is there an estimate of the average cap weight in grams. I know about the dose calc and everything and have done a ton of research. I was asking for an eyeball estimate.

Yes. I've already found this. Again, I was looking for an estimate judging from the picture.

Judging from the picture I'd eat two maybe three whole mushrooms. Caps and stem. That would probably be a decent trip.

I am in Baldwin County. Haven't found shit. A nice farmer even let me look in his pasture...nothing. Still looking though.

Hoping all the rain coming up this week helps produce some cubes for everyone in the south east. Here in Ga. at least my part hasn't had rain in 2 months. What a drought. It's been above 90 for at least 6 weeks. I hope the drought didn't kill all the mycelium. Forecast here says 3 to 5 inches in the next few days and temps down. I know I'll be looking at the end of the week I hope to see lots of good pics in the next week.
