Wild mushroom hunt
    #14500305 - 05/23/11 05:49 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Went on my first wild mushroom hunt today, not expecting to find anything.  Found turkey tail on the very first log I looked on, to my surprise.  Then I came across some shrooms that were camo'd, which I have no idea what they are, but was cool to find (see photos below).  Then I found some wood ear-like (or peziza... will research) which really made me happy.  Finally, came across some orange ones (which I'm pretty sure are poisonous).  Other than getting snowed on, and walking through the deep snow, the trip was a blast.  Didn't find any morels, which I really was hopin' for, but hey, it was fun.  Anyone know what the "camo" ones are or the orange ones?  These were found in the Uinta mountains of Utah.  I think the animal print is bear, but not sure.  Oh, and the log has turkey tail myc, which I thought was cool... it looks like snow, but it's myc.

The little small orange/yellow ones look like Witches Butter (Tremella Mesenterica) according to my Missouri mushroom book, and they are edible but don't have much flavor. I wouldn't guarantee it though, I would definitely get a second opinion before I ate them.

That's all I know =)
