Not strychnine.
Psilocybin.

It has never been proved that psilocybin is the cause for bruising. Though most of the species containing psilocybin bruise, there is no direct link between the two. There are hundreds of inactive species that do it as well. To say it's strychnine behind this is just stupid.

I have read that it is likely to be caused by the presence of an oxidation product of psilocin.
Hence, a species like Psilocybe semilanceata which has a very low psilocin content compared to psilocybin doesn't commonly display the blue bruising, whereas Psilocybe cyanescens which has a high concentration of psilocin readily bruises blue.

Wrong.

The two compounds, psilocybin and psilocin, are equally psychoactive. Colorless psilocybin can be rapidly oxidized to reveal a blue colored product, which is one of its most common field identification features.

During these studies, it was also observed that with certain tissues the dephosphorylation product, psilocin, underwent oxidation to a blue colored product

For any of you that mushroom hunt, u know psilocybes are not the only blue bruisers. Boletes bruise blue like crazy. Same exact kinda blue as actives. However, they look VERY different than psilocybes and are much larger.

I find the bluing on Boletes to be much more vibrant/brighter and it happens wayyy faster than with Psilocybes.

Yes, it is a very rich vibrant blue, that happens fast. It seems like the psilocybe blue, just that most of the time a bolete will have more bluing than a psilocybe
