I got home today and saw these guys growing in my yard. I was extremely excited as upon closer inspection saw pins, EVERYWHERE in the grass. Are these actives, and if not are they edible? I think they are in the genera panaeolus because of the slight rings on some of the caps and black spore prints. I apologize for the poor image quality, I only have a camera phone.

Habitat: newly laid sod, St. Augustine grass, southwest florida 1 mile from coast.
Gills: gills, attached, dark brown?
Stem: hollow, whitish towards gills and at bottom where it meets with mycellium, brownish/tan Cap: convex, tan to goldish yellow
Spore print color: black
Bruising: darkens to almost a reddish/brown I think there may be some SLIGHT bluing at the base where meeting mycellium, but then it might be my imagination.
Other information: smells a lot like fresh Cubenis.

That's what I was hoping for, but they aren't bluing very noticeably. I THINK there is some blue at the base where I picked it but it might be my excitement getting the best of me, and it's not bluing anywhere else. Can they be actives if they don't blue?

Hopefully the pins will mature more for the next few days, I would like to get a second opinion before I go and eat these though. Thanks for the input.

They are either pan foes or pan cincts, and if the spore print is black and there is reddening, I would lean towards pan cinct. Either option is nontoxic, but it can't hurt to wait for someone with more hands-on experience with the species to chime in.

Thank you that helped a lot, a buddy and I are going to eat them some time this week, If its Pan. cinct then awesome, if not, oh well won't get sick anyways. I'm going to wait for some of the others in my yard to mature a bit, there are quite a bit of clusters growing :P
