Contam or bruise?
    #14499605 - 05/23/11 03:18 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I'm new to this whole this so an experts advice would be much a appreciated.
My jars are Cambodia and experienced some heavy handling when moving locals a few days after inoculation.
4/5 jars have shown a single blue spot per jar.
the biggest splotch is the size of an average eraser.
I have included close up and full jar photo's of the most progressed according to size of discoloration and size of neighboring mycelium.

PS.Also I feel I must apologize for the clarity of my camera

That my friend is trichoderma. You'll have to restart sorry. Have you kept them at room temp? If its been hot they may show a little bruising but Im almost sure its trich.

Not only can high temps cause bruising but can increaae the risk of contamination. I would say start over an icubate the next batch at a consistant 80 degrees.

I have the jars quarantined away from the rest for observation and study of trich development and I've noticed that in 2 jars ( with the most substantial mycelium growth) the mycelium seems to be taking over the spots. Does this mean that the Cambodian mycelium is taking over and destroying the competition within the jar or that it is merely being covered up?

If the mycelium is well established that may be so but as a safety precaution I would pitch them. You could let them grow and once there colonized enough to fruit you could birth them scrape out the the contaminated areas and fruit  the cakes like normal in a seperate FC. Its possible but I do not recomend it.
