well i started this project last year. this is an ooooold ass yew i have had in this potensai ( potensai means potential bonsai, one that is not quite done yet) box for about 6-7 years nows. i put a bunch of wood chips as a top dressing in this box for a season and put in a bit of some wine cap spawn . this winter it was super thickly colonized. Bonsai and mushroooms dont really mix because bonsais cant have such wet conditions. it rots the roots. but this big tree has good drainage once you get the wood out again.
i noticed that there was mycelium all through the soil when i took out all the colonized chips and sure as shit it actually fruited!!
i am super stoked on this, i hope you enjoy it .

Did you water the chips regularly or just leave them to the elements and allow nature to take its course?

i water my bonsais when needed. but that being a large specimen it doesnt require much watering until peak summer. so it was left to the elements for most of the year.

thanks bro!
this is going to be a real gem of a bonsai in a few more years. the front branches that have been pruned and are bare are going to be stripped, carved and bleached and will look all gnarly like an ancient bristlecone pine or something. its half way there and i am very happy with what i have accomplished with it.
i am glad i started an old man hobby when i was only 20 because when i am an old man i will have some good 40 year old masterpieces.
3200$ tho!!?? wow thats steep.

Yeah all of there stuff is super expensive but its the nicest place in the valley if you are into horticulture. They have like 120 different kinda of tomatoes, which fucking amazes me! What do wine caps taste like?

they are very firm, their texture is as good or better than Agaricus and the taste is quite meaty. cut thick slices, baste in teriyaki, and put on skewers and bbq til almost dry!! mmm delicious.
but i am personally allergic to them now. my parents , my son and any friends i give them too eat them with out any problems tho. i get stomach aches and runny bum.
