Is IRC dead?

Tried text chat option, froze firefox (repeatedly). Tried mibbit online, couldn't connect got the message ''seems like your a bot''. Downloaded mibbit, tried to connect but keep getting ''you are not authorized to use this server''. Downloaded pidgin, wouldn't connect.
Sooo, is it dead?

Try using an IRC client like mIRC. It's alive and well and we're chatting away with lots of users. irc.shroomery.org /join #shroomery

After 30 days it will only nag you and make you wait a minute. No reason to pay for it, unless you are just really impatient.

Yeah, you can also find cracks on the internet if you really wanna go that route. I just find it easy to wait till it's done nagging though, less chance of random rare viruses.

It's not boring at all! It's just the same as here, except in shorter sentences and fucked up people are more apparent because they can't correct their mistakes after hitting enter...

hmmm. good to know. I figured after 30 days, it would lock you out. but nagging I can deal with (insert marriage joke here).
Normally I'd just go on tpb and download the crack version, but you know...

I used to live on irc. I had a good 20-30 friends from real life on there in a few rooms back when dalnet was a good irc server, '99-2000. #batcave wich was a friends room local to our town and #sacramento.
That's how I used to communicate, I hated all those instant chat programs like aim, msn, icq (uh oh). Granted I usually had one on to tell me to get on irc or pay attention.
Ah the games we used to play as op's or later on other servers being admins. Good times. My friend wrote an irc script, is that the right word, I forget but most of the peeps used it that frequented our room. It had a back door so if you typed in a certain msg to them it would force a disconnect with a fucked up message. All in good fun, no harm but damn those where the days.
(OMG my cat just fucked up the litter box, the whole house stinks!)

I don't trust downloading cracked versions so much with IRC clients. It's to easy to add some extra code in.
I did a while back on a private server so I figured it was safe but lost it in a format. I can live with the nag, I am married after all

^ yeah, before this, I had Red Hat and Ubuntu dual booting on my laptop. Never had to worry about viruses. downloaded whatever I wanted. Hell, I once downloaded and ran a virus, just because I knew I could. I miss xchat though. Best irc program I've ever had the pleasure of using.

Ah I used xchat a bit. Grew up with mirc so i was a bit confused with it.
Looks like there is a xchat windows client but it costs cash.... Might be able to find that somewhere.
