How efficent are you at finding new sub patches? ive been to about 5 places where there would be perfect for them to grow and only found 1 very small patch. How do subs get from one park to another? do people spread them or do they just grow there?

Went out for a stroll and a bit of a hunt today - NEED MORE RAIN! But, other than that, found a few for my collection, woohoo!!!
But, I also saw these cool little mushrooms, anyone have any idea what they are?

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get some help with drying...
First of all, if you partially dry a mushroom, I mean probably 95% dry, but the stem still has a bit of bend, how does this effect the sustainability of the mushroom? What does it actually do?
Also... How long can the drying process last?
What I usually do is put them in heating ducts in the ceiling when I get home, which dries them pretty well, but not fully. I was thinking about putting them in the oven afterwards. How long would I need to do this for?
Thanks

you just have to get majority of the moisture out of them till they look like they're dry with a fan or heater or even sun drying, then you can either put them in an oven on the lowest setting or in a dessication chamber untill they are cracker dry. they should snap and crumble. theres no 'set time' of how long it should take , just leave them in there and check on them every now and then untill they are ready.
if they are almost completely dry the oven should finish them off in 2 hours or so.

Depends on how many. I put them in the oven on really low heat (really should be a fan forced oven) for a couple of hours with the door cracked.
If you leave any moisture, they will rot when stored for

Use a fan for 24 hours or more, or a food dehydrator. Heating them may reduce potency.

Found these today. The second picture doesn't do justice to how big that patch was. It went back another couple of metres.

People say that but I find if you dry them on really low heat (40-50c) with the door cracked and the fan on, it doesn't affect them at all.
I've also left some in a bowl on a shelf up high and forgotten them. Found them a month later and they were perfectly dried.....not to say that I recommend this...I might have been lucky.

Ok. Thanks guys! Just say I dry them mostly with the ducted heating, how long will it be before they start to rot?
I would put them in the oven, but I don't always have the privacy to put class A illegal 'drugs' into the oven at home. How long could I keep the mushrooms in their 'mostly dry' state before they would spoil? A few days?

it depends on alot of things. mushrooms that are a bit haggard will rot quicker then others, perfect specimens may last around about a week. eitherway it's in your best interests to get them dry as soon as you can, if you've gone to the effort of picking them you don't want to let them go to waste. It's also an idea not to pick more then you can handle to dry, because the excess will go to waste. sometimes people get caught up in hunting and grab more then they really can dry in a timely fashion, and end up wasting half of them.

^ This, exactly! Psilocybin and psilocin are amazingly stable molecules. They are both stable up to around 170°C (over 300°F!), I don't know what retard started spreading the bullshit urban legend that cooking or heat drying would harm mushroom potency, but I want to hit that person in the face with a hammer.
I simmer my mushrooms for 90 minutes and then strain off any mushroom bits through a collander and dispose of them. Then I use the remaining liquid to make a tea and I have never tripped any less balls than when I ate the actual mushrooms, but it's a lot less harsh on the stomach and it doesn't cause any nausea (except for when people are susceptable to the dizzy feeling during the onset it can make you feel sort of seasick, but that's a normal effect of the body load caused by psilocin).

This is what I have to start doing I think. I used to chomp on them no worries, but now I just can't bring myself to do it without dry retching. How do you go with dosage? Do you use the same amount as you would if you were eating or do you allow for loss as you are throwing away the fruit?

i make tea also, but i don't think i let it simmer long enough to get all of the goodies out of the shrooms, because the trips are normally not as strong, but i counter act for this by adding more to start with.
I usually just let it simmer untill it turns to that magnificent deep blue colour ( ) and then i'll let it simmer for another 10-15 mins and then im good to go. 90 minutes sounds a bit excessive to me, but to each their own.

Also, has anyone had any luck up Ballarat way? I've been for a few hunts last week, but come out with nothing. Tell you what, if Amanita were the mushrooms I were after, I'd have enough for a lifetime and then some. They are absolutely everywhere here. Found a patch of over easily 200 the other day, didn't have my phone to take a picture unfortunately. It was an amazing sight!
