Will the PF Tek fruiting chamber suffice here?
    #14497566 - 05/23/11 03:53 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

So i'm going to have a shot at using a bulk substrate, following this guide here.

I am fairly familiar with the PF Tek and my questions are:

1. will the plastic box with holes drilled in and layered with perlite work for fruiting?

2. Do i just birth them like pf tek jars and leave them intact as one solid cake or do i spread them out in the fruiting chamber?

thank you in advance

When you grow using a bulk substrate you usually grow in a tray, or you spread the spawn/bulk mix directly in the bottom of the tub (place a plastic bag that isn't penetrated by light at the bottom of the tub first to avoid pinning on the bottom/sides of the substrate, and for easier cleaning up). So you might have a minimum of 2" of substrate depth, usually 3-5" maybe. If this substrate is properly hydrated then you don't need any perlite, there is plenty moisture in the substrate itself. If you want to use smaller portions, say in small trays, then perlite might be useful to keep up humidity.

The plastic box should be fine.

I didn't have time to read the details of the tek you linked to, but I hope this answers some of your questions.
