Anyone find deeply religious people disturbing?
    #14496882 - 05/22/11 11:27 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Call me crazy but i find deeply embedded religious beliefs disturbing.

I can barely take any of my old friends that pray to god seriously in their ideas about the world.

I wouldn't even call myself atheist but i wish people would think twice about praising god.

I hoped for the rapture so they would all be gone. It would have made the world peaceful for a change.

I used to do customer service for eHarmony, which was founded by an Evangelical Preacher (the cottonheaded guy in the commercials).  Over the 2 years I was there, I developed a deeper hatred for Christians than I had ever experienced before.  I found that my least favorite Christians are the Pentecostals, Evangelicals and Baptists.  Anyway, I was fired 1 week after being given an award for the most customers writing or calling back to tell my manager how great I was at going above and beyond what they needed.  I was fired without ever having a history of bad behavior or even a warning because 1 day this guy who's account showed he was the holiest of holy fundamentalist Christians cussed me out because he called on his 8th day of using his subscription for a refund, when there is a strict 7 day refund period and he couldn't have it.  So instead of hanging up on him for saying "fuck you bitch" to me about 15 times, I waited until he was done and told him calmly and without cussing that he was a hypocrite.  Anyway...  Fuck eHarmony for firing me for that, and fuck Christians in general.  Fuck them right in the ear

No. Because I have arguments that destroy any logical theological argument.  For example, if the bible is the word, does that mean we should stone people to death?

My main argument is, how can you decide which part of the bible you obey?  Either you are for it, or against it.

I try to live by buddhist principles.

That's not really true. There is context to the rules in the Bible.
If we're not living in ancient times, we shouldn't have to follow ancient rules.
e.g. Back then, not eating pork and such made sense; they couldn't cook it well enough, and a lot of people would die from disease.

BTW, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate.

And overzealous faith-based proselytizers deserve various forms of torture.

Nah, it's deeply rooted brain washing. Some of them are crazy (in the medical sense), but not all of them.

I think Buddhism is one of the most respectable religions because it states that we are intimately connected with the universe and we are all a collective whole. All of what I said is scientifically proven.
Hopefully you guys don't hate on me too bad:laugh2: But I agree alot of religious people suck bawlz:grin:

I think some people were raised in oppressive catholic families that forced their religion on their children.(I lived in one) That caused me to despise religion for a looooong time.
However, hate doesn't solve anything it just creates suffering. So make love and take drugs, homies :hippie:

seems all the religions preach the "choke it down their throats until they
convert or they can all just fuck off and die" philosophy, even atheism

it's not just the Catholics, it's every religious belief, buddhism, atheism,
all of them. buddhists are killing non believers in many parts of the world,
sri lanka is the most well known because that's where the 'holy war' is

That's very true. There was a time, in Tibet, when buddhism considered the Bon-po to be heretics and pulled a '' witch hunt '' on them.
