If I want to smoke or vape crushed Syrian rue seeds do I need to take the same precautions as if I were to eat them?

Good question, since Syrian Rue grows like weeds around here....I picked some the other day and I was wondering about smoking it. But I have no idea.

Diet is not a major concern because syrian rue contains harmala alkaloids which are reversible inhibitors of MAO-A but I would not use any drugs that react poorly with MAOI's.

in southern New Mexico syrian rue grows everywhere. Its not native, it is invasive. It's everywhere here, out in the desert. Just like a weed. I took that pic the other day.

I just picked a sample for taxonomy. They are syrian rue, the pods are just coming out. By the density of the pods on the plants, I'd say there will be a shitload of seeds by mid-summer. One thing interesting, the Rue is doing really well, in this horridly dry climate. There hasn't been a drop of rain here in 4 months, a bad drought. But Rue, and some other oddball plants, do well here. I believe it has to do with the fact that the aquifer is very shallow, though there is no surface water, there is a lot of water just under the surface, and though quite alkaline, a lot of desert plants do well in it.
Other plants I'm working here are damiana, datura, and various cactus, and creosote bush.

That's awesome. This summer you should master the art of extracting harmala alkaloids and open up shop with the purest harmaline crystals around.

I've heard syrian rue can also be found through out the southern California desert areas. And I'm pretty damn sure I've seen it occasionally growing in the central valley of California as well.
My goal this summer/fall is to collect & harvest many of the medicinal & psychoactive plants/herbs that grown around my area.

you don't need much taxonomy to know it, the flower is unique.
