WBS clumping into cakes
    #14494184 - 05/22/11 01:48 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So I left a couple jars of WBS sitting too long while.e colonizing. They started clumping to the point where it's like 2-4 huge clumps that won't break up. Should I just leave it sit and colonize into clumps, or open them and break it up (the latter sounds like a bad idea.) If I let them clump, Should I break it up and case it? Some are clumped enough that I could let them finish clumping and just fruit them like a cake (if thats at all possible) So what should I do while it's still colonizing, and how should I fruit these?

Just break it up in a sterile enviroment like a glove box. That happened to me so i broke it up and spawned it like regular WBS, it works fine. WBS as cakes are terrible thats not what its meant for.

so I'm guessing that it should be done after colonizing is complete? That way the mycelium is string enough to fight contams?

If its completely covered in myc in clumps odds are thats 100% colonization but you could leave ti a little bit longer. Though you make it seem like theyve been sitting there for quite a while already, you should probably just spawn it in a sterile enviroment. Its easy to break up.

most pieces are completely covered. they've been going about 2 weeks. only problem is that for one week ( a few days after mycelium showed up,) the temperature went down to fruiting temp (about 22c-27c.) so they might take longer then 2 weeks at optimal temp.

I've tried tape rolls, bike tires, my thigh and ass, lol. Shit just won't break.

I want to make some agar dishes and prints A.S.A.P. Also, want to clone the biggest fruit and use that for the bulk grow.  So, I won't be mass substrating this batch. I'll be doing it probably sometime next week. Only reason I'll wait that long is that I've got about 8-10 BRF jars that are %90-%95 colonized, and will probably be %100 in the next few days. Then they need the week long sit.

Since the casings will be done in small tupperware containers I'll be using my SG. I imagine I'll use something like plastic toilet paper rolls to keep the tupper ware containers off the perlite. which should keep more area available to evaporate water.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for this grow?

you CAN just birth the WBS and hope for big fruits, but iv always hear you cant really expect great fruits with just birthing rye or WBS, at least spawn to a wee bit of compost.
it also sounds like those WBS jars are ready to go if there stuck together that good and your wanting to just fruit them.
Idk what ever you think is good, but Id crumble those WBS jars, put them in sum compost let them Inc. that next week with your BRF jars and birth them all together! like one big family.

If they are uncolonized clumps then beat the jar some more.  Don't beat afraid to beat that bitch hard.  Shake in all directions.  If the clump is colonized and you are spawning then break it up when you dump it in your tub with clean gloves using your hands.....

The mushrooms, which grow only during the season of torrential rains, awaken the forces of creation and produce an experience of spiritual abundance, of an astonishing, inexhaustible constitution of forms that identifies them with fertility and makes them a mediation, a means of communion, of communication between man and the natural world of which they are the metaphysical flesh.
