If your best friend was dying and in pain, and you had to pull the plug?

Discuss Euthanasia.
What would you do? And why would you do it?

Would you respect your friends wishes or watch them suffer? First.

I would discuss it with him. I'd tell him one day he's gonna die anyway, so if for some reason there is punishment for this, you might as well wait 'till you die. Lengthening your life that long isn't gonna matter when you're dead.

The best friend cannot speak.
Unfortunately, I think I agree with all of you who say 'pull the plug'.
It's the best way to go since death is inevitable and the innocent don't deserve prolonged pain, however,
Gandalf once said,
"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? . . . Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement."
So I just don't know..
Has anybody gone through this before?

He can listen..
I'm just waiting for a sign of some sort. Something to confirm that 'pulling the plug' is indeed what he wants. After all, he cannot tell me what he does or doesn't want.
Sorry about the feelsbadman that this thread delivers, but I guess that is the nature of "feels".
I would gladly trade my life for his right now, but I can't.
I hurt myself today.

i wouldn't do it. there would be no way to know for sure. even if there was, i just don't think i could 'pull the plug' on someone's life like that, i dunno, seems odd.

Personally, I would pull the plug. I imagine being trapped in my own head would be one of the worst things imaginable.

I haven't read the book. I want to see the movie. I knew about it because of Metallica's "One" video. Seems very scary/sad.

Fixed.
I would personally pull the plug depending on how severe the pain and suffering is. OP, is your friend in a vegetable state or is he still receptive of his surroundings but in pain? Is there a chance he will recover?

Word. Yet is there any surefire way of knowing that pulling the plug was the right thing to do? If you do you'll never knew if he'd have eventually recovered and if you don't then you're just hoping for it while he suffers.
It's an iffy situation.

Yeah, if there's any chance, don't do it. There's many things I'm ok with humans going off feeling and everything, but with something as big as life, you can't decide in my opinion.

Sounds like YOU want to pull the plug because you see your friend in pain. Until he tells you that that's what he wants you to do, you have no right to do so. In fact, although I support euthanasia, I'd definitely classify that as murder- possibly voluntary manslaughter.

Sorry about your friend, dude.

I've been through a similar thing swim, and for a person who is in a situation where there is really no chance of healing up or going back to living a normal life, or if they are in a significant ammount of pain and their quality of life has really been shattered, then i think euthanasia should definately be an option.
It's all well and good for the people here in this thread, who are detached from the situation to say: " yeah pull the plug ". but it's a complete different thing when your the person who's in that situation and has to make the decision.
I couldn't.
I think the best thing to do is just try to comfort them as much as you can and do whatever is possible to help them or put them at ease. Even when people are in medically induced coma's they can hear you. so talk to the person. read them stories from a book. play some of their favourite tunes, or just some really nice ambient relaxing music. keep it positive though.
but yeah dude, it sucks to have to go through things like this.
welcome back by the way

Still not much of an existence is it? I personally wouldn't want to live like that and if the same thing were to happen to me I have to assume I would feel the same way I do now and ask for a large DMT/heroin dose.

Awesomely dark book I got halfway through then lost it somewhere. I've been meaning to get another copy for like two months now.

Not only just pulling the plug.
Probably if I was a quadriplegic I wouldn't wanna live, I think no one asks to be born but it's everyones own right to decide if they wanna be here or not.
I'm am not anyone to judge what others might be going through, plus I would like to know people would do the same for me if needed.
No friend or relative of mine deserves an endless suffering.
