First Mushroom Find!

Hello! I'm a new guy here to the forums, but I've been reading up for a few weeks now about various topics. I've always been kinda interested in the "Mario" mushroom, just for the cliche reasons...Well I think I got lucky today on my first hunt ever. Hopefully some experts here will be able to help me identify this mushroom.
Its a lazy Sunday here in the Midwest, and my dog needed out of the house...so we went on a walk. Its been raining pretty good here the past week, and its very humid today. There were a few things I was looking out for, based on studies I've done through Shroomery.
1. Climate 2. Pine Trees 3. Large red and/or yellow capped mushrooms with white warts.
Some questions though: I've heard Amanita Muscaria fruit in the autumn months...its definitely spring? I've read that Amanitas around my locality come more yellow-ish as well?
This would be an amazing find for my first time...Thanks for your guys' insight.

What are these? Found them close by.

Good job, Jimifan.
Yes, the Amanita muscaria in your region will be yellow/orange...not red. You did good on finding the right habitat. The main muscaria season is the fall but you can find them in smaller numbers through the summer. There are other orange/yellow Amanitas that are look-alikes in your area...you should try to become familiar with them.

Aha! Sweet! So there's a possibility that this could be a similar Amanita? Can you point me towards more information? I appreciate the rapid response Bob!
If others want to chime in, feel free. I'm approaching this mushroom with utmost caution, since there's a lot of skepticism behind this shroom.

I am inclined to believe it is. A. amerimuscaria is also known as Amanita muscaria variety formosa. Don't take my word for it, Bobzimmer is an amanita expert

It's been called by both those name but I feel Amanita muscaria var guessowii is the most accurate current name. That's what Jimifan has.
No experts here...

quite the opposite. It gets you high in a different way from magic mushrooms. If you would have said,"so I can gat high, dangerously off of this mushroom..." I'd have agreed. read some, "trip-reports" about it

You're on your own here...I don't advise people to consume Amanita muscaria. From what I understand the consumtion of this fungus can be anywhere from deadly to healthful, pleasant to unpleasant. Some research on your part is in order.

This is hunting forum but I will add my caution on consuming these mushrooms. If prepared wrong, can make you sick. If done right, might induce some type of altered state, but as stated, not like magic mushrooms. So I would say, skip it. Just my two cents
Peace

Yeah, sorry to get the thread off topic. Honest answers from honest people though! I like it. It sucks this find won't be as rewarding as hoped for, but at least I'm able to look now. I'm leaning towards just drying it out and smoking some of the cap with some herb.

...you could sun or fan dry those caps while you are researching other peoples amanita experiences, or store them in papar in the fridge for a few days. good luck with it!

The important part when trying to ID an amerimuscaria are the concentric circles, or "rings" around the base of the stem. Be careful when cleaning and drying older specimens, maggots love the stem tissue. I usually just dry out the cap and use the stem to transfer myc to different habitats.

Well, here's some more pictures for you guys if you need. Thanks to everyone for the great input! I've been letting it dry out on a table with no aide... hopefully there's nothing wrong with that. I did notice maggots form up on the loose chunk of cap that was laying on the ground. Apparently wildlife or something stepped on this mushroom before I found it.
I think Bob's veteran skills takes the prize home on this ID though. After reading up on this guide here: Guide to Hunting Fly Agarics in North America I'm positive this mushroom is a Amanita Muscaria var. guessowii. I can't remember where someone mentioned the base of the stem being 2x bigger than the shaft. That guide even makes mention of var. formosa being heavily confused with guessowii. I'm still very noob at this though.
Peace!
