Outdoor patch ?

Alright so I have 10 quarter pint jars that are fully colonized, and i'd like to do 5-6 of them outdoors. Im gonna assume 6 quarterpints won't cover much area but but i havent been able to find a general ratio for pints to square feet?
I also have some manure compost that says its no less than 20% manure, I know this isnt optimal but is there anything else i can add to it to give it a boost( I have wheat straw as well)? I was thinking maybe coffee grounds would help? Thanks!

IME store bought composted manures dont work. (except for black cow)
Straw works well, coir works too. Not saying that manure wont work but I sure haven't been able to get it to work.

What has your problem been with it? low potency, low yield, no growth at all?

I had layers of straw and poo and some jus staight poo but only the straw was colonized. Didnt even touch the composted manure at all.

Strange. So do you typically use a mixture of straw and coir or would just straw work?

Also would it work to mix bird seed in to the mixture of compost straw and broken up brf cakes? Just to add some more nutrients, I know people use bird seed for bulk spawn. I'm kind of doubting the quality of the manure I got because it was like 1.69 at walmart and is only 20% manure.

The birdseed is usually dug up and eaten by animals in almost everyone i've heard of's experience.
straw/poo layeded with popcorn spawn 6'' deep is the best outdoor grow i've seen. better than the shit pile style.

uhh? so your ganna grow cubes outside? or gourmet? theres a reason why ppl dont add WBS to there bulk sub like compost. WBS, when sterilized that is, contams fast if not kept in a steril environment, i wouldnt add raw WBS just for nuts
But i would use 110% colonized WBS and spawn to sum straw! and i think your thinkin of Verm and choir, not straw and choir. straw or choir in compost is used "fluff" it. The compost you bough it just top soil, with a lil bit of manure

Theyre Cubies in quarter pint brf cakes... yeah not optimal.
But its sounding like i should go out and try to find a different source for manure. Would some compost from my compost heap out back be a viable replacement by chance? and i have some vermicompost from my worm bin if that would work?

The spawn calculator here has quarter pints: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9966080#9966080
It's in the very first post at the top. And the Black Kow manure has been getting good reviews. Yes, it's Kow with a K. Comes in a yellow bag here.

I'll work on this another time. So much to read and learn here. Great community.

tho, store bought compost or leaf pile compost is not ideal for most growers here, it is, for the most part mushrooms natural food source. tho, i would imagine you would have to adapt ur cubes to live in your climate and feed off of your compost. after all, cubes are a tropical species. Good luck!

Problem I had with outdoor cubes was that the pill bugs ate all the grains before the myc could transfer to the straw. Spawn to pasteurized straw indoors first, then to a pasteurized straw and compost bed in an all-day shaded area lined with black plastic with several holes poked through it. Throw 2 inches of sand or pea gravel on top of the plastic before layering compost, straw, spawn, straw, compost, etc... Case it with hydrated verm, then cover the bed with fine non-dyed mulch. Water as needed.
