Looking for a service manual

I know this isn't really the forum to ask about this, but I've been searching for a while.
I'm looking for a service manual for a craftsman push mower. I need info on the timing. I kinda wanna look at the book before I tear it apart. I've never worked on a small engine, only cars.
Soooo... If you know a good site to find service/shop manuals (Not owners manuals) let me know.
My dog is about to disappear in the grass in her pen and I can't get my riding mower up in there.

Na, it was blowing oil out something fierce through the oil pan gasket. Couldn't cut for more than 5 minutes before half of the oil blew out.
I pulled it off and used silicone to seal it up, but I fucked up the timing. Now I gotta fix that.
Your right though, I'ma go get the engine number off of it, that'll help out my searching.
It's what I get for tearing it apart without finding some literature on it first.

the timing is set by the dots on the gears. Did you line them back up?

I gotta tear it a lot more apart to see the gears were the timing tick marks are at. I found a book though. Wish me luck, I'ma go give it the good ol' college try.

with it pouring oil out I wonder if the rings are letting way to much blow by past and it might be to worn out to really mess with. It the piston does not seal really well the gases raise the pressure in the crankcase and it was relived with oil being sprayed out.

Thats what my dad was saying, crankcase pressure probably blew out the gasket. It's like a 10 year old mower. I got another engine but the shaft isn't long enough.
It seems to have good compression. Maybe I should put a gauge on it to see if it holds it's compression.
I finally got it all torn apart and put back together. I gotta get an oil seal for it before I can even try it out. Not sure if it's gonna be worth it.

Time to buy a sling blade and some of them french fried potaters.
Seriously though, can you adjust the timing on a small engine like that? I would just mark the timing chain and the cam sprocket if it's not already and tear that bitch down. If it's the ignition timing then just experiment, it's one cylinder, B.

I was just having trouble getting the oil pan off of it. Turned out I had to remove the seal then sand the shaft down smooth for it to slide off.
It's just two tick marks on the two gears that gotta line up. It was a tooth off.

Holy shit. How did it get a tooth off? That's hardcore. Those things have shear pins that are supposed to break before anything like that can happen. I'm not a small engine guy, though. As with most things I know enough to be dangerous

I think it went a tooth off when he cracked it open a bit to seal it then siliconed it shut. The keyway will shear when you hit stuff I think is what you are talking about.

Nah, they have shear pins or intentionally designed weak points in the drive train that are meant to fail if you hit something. Keyways are pretty tough.

they have weak keyway shape like a half moon just for that reason. They are not like keyways meant for other equipment. A snow blower has the pins.
edit: newer ones do use pins and designed the hub of the blade to fail now. Sorry I was wrong. Older ones I used to work on would shear the keyways most of the time when you would hit shit.

The gear that moved was held in place by the oil pan. When I moved it the gear fell down and I pushed it back without looking. Like a dumbass
