I'm still waiting to get that google chip put in my brain.

Just some routine face-saving, I guarantee Google will incorporate this eventually, and probably already intends on doing so.
Google is practically an intelligence agency in itself.

Well one Julian Assange good friends Jacob Appelbaum. A notorious hacker among other things says he loves google but he said he does not trust what they might turn into in the future.
This is from rollingstone article.....
"I love Google," he says. "And I love the people there. Sergey Brin and Larry Page are cool. But I'm terrified of the next generation that takes over. A benevolent dictatorship is still a dictatorship. At some point people are going to realize that Google has everything on everyone. Most of all, they can see what questions you're asking, in real time. Quite literally, they can read your mind."

Oh, guess we should not talk about it then.
But this is indeed new. It has yet to truly surface in our everyday lives especially in a way that the article suggests.

When I was studying computer programming back in the 90's I saw this coming. Some programming problems are impossible, others just require a lot of money. Facial recognition has long been known to be in the second category, you could do it with a big enough, fast enough, computer.

I disagree with doc_turd. The big enough fast enough computer problem has always been surmountable with innovative programming. Programming is all about summing up things mathematically and telling a computer how to recognize a face is basically a mathematical formula. Stronger computers just make bruting easier. With the new technology coming out processing power is going to jump exponentially the way it did back in the day but now you have methods of programming that are so slick and innovative it's just enough to make you wanna jerk off. The two together make something like facial recognition a breeze. The real challenge in making this world a real minority report is building a machine that makes perfectly polished little wooden balls.

, you're such a stereotypical fearmonger.
Are things really that bad for the average American? I personally can't complain too much, you're making it seem like everybody in the US is gravely suffering.

Fear monger?? Hardly. I just want people to be aware. That does not mean you should be fucking scared. If you are scared then you are screwed anyways.
You're comment is that of a stereotypical "sheep"
