My ex is in prison for some time, im moving on from this person, the car is in their name, they said to me in a letter to take the car and just go. Now the sister of this person says they have power of attorney of this person and is telling me if i dont give her the car i will be arrested and charged with a felony. And top it off she has my some of my things and when i went to get them they were gone, she is not speaking to me.
Does she have power? Is there anything i can do?

A letter isn't ownership. Do you have the title and other documentation?

Sounds like the car isn't in your name and isn't yours.
The best you can do is try and convince the person in jail to tell their sister you can keep it.

you need to file for a title for an abandoned vehicle or place a lien against the vehicle and acquire the title that way, someone can claim they have power of attorney but all of this would go through a civil court, not criminal court so you wont be arrested
in the state I'm in acquiring a title for an abandoned vehicle requires someone to do a title search through the DMV ($1), it shows the names of all the registered owners, a certified letter to the last owner declaring intent to possess has to be mailed to the last known address in that persons name, after 30 days you take that letter/receipt (unopened) to the magistrate judge and they'll send another letter to the same person/address, they'll receive the letter back after 30 days and then send in the forms to have the title of the vehicle issued to you and that generally takes another 30 days
placing a lien against the vehicle is easier but it prevents anyone from taking possession of the vehicle without the amount of the lien being satisfied, make sure you include the value of your missing belonging

unless she can prove power of attorney, then ownership is 90% of the law.
I would try to get the person in jail to sign a letter/title/bill of sale for 1 dollar, giving you ownership of the car. or at least a voice recording over the phone.

start the process first thing monday if you can, if you have the title of the car in her name at your house that's even better, just get her to sign it at the jail, the jail does record phone conversations but I think you'd need to subpoena the recording which would require a lawsuit or other legal action
check the laws in your state to see if there's an age at which vehicles dont need to be titled, if it's older than, like joe mentioned, a bill of sale and register it in your name ASAP

So i just found out through a source at work the police where looking for me, so i gave the car back yesterday. I found out charges were pressed but im not sure what, if she agrees to drop them do i still have to appear in court? Also if there are charges does that mean there is a warrent for my arrest?

if the charges get droped you dont have to appear in court, but you do want to call at least twice to the sheriffs department or the court clerk to make sure there's no charges pending
just because the cops are looking for you doesnt mean they wanna do anything more than help resolve the issue

if it's abandoned... I have 2 in my yard right now, one is about to go to the scrap yard, $400 just for taking it there and doing nothing else, too old for a title, bill of sale is acceptable (1996 in Ga)
