Coir bulk sub: verm + coffee = 2 qts?

Hey guys,
I've used Damion's coir tek in the past (plus some coffee and gypsum) with great success, but was reading threads about optimal ratios and found quite a few different answers.
Damion recommends 2 qts verm, no coffee Doc_T recommends 1 qt verm, 1 qt coffee
Basically, I am wondering if coffee grounds retain water in the same way as verm, and if we always want the total volume of verm + coffee to be around 2 qts. If so, I am thinking that my recipe will be:
1 brick coir 1 qt verm 1 qt spent coffee grounds 1 pt gypsum 4-4.5 qt water (unless coffee soaks up more/less water than verm....not sure)

You get more of a chance for contamination with coffee. I'd just stick with 1 brick coir, 2 quarts verm, some gypsum, and 5 quarts of spawn. Keep it simple. You're not going to get drastically increased yields using coffee, anyways.

3 verm, zero coffee would be my current recommendation. And a cup of gypsum.

keep in mind the higher the spawn rate, the faster colonization will be. This stage is the race against contamstaking a foot hold on the bulk sub. I always used 5 to 6 qts per mono. 2 weeks max and ready for fruiting everytime.

Thanks guys....as you've figured, I'm not the biggest fan of contams and will probably use only a little or no coffee.
Doc_T, do you recommend adding extra water to Damion's recipe if you use 3 qts verm?

Field capacity is field capacity. If you're throwing in extra verm, do the squeeze test after you mix it up well and see if it seems dry. It's always safer to go a little dry than too wet though.
