How 'bout you guys?
Remember, let's be respectful here.
my mother was raised as a baptist, my father raised a jew, he stopped believing, if he ever had long before adulthood, my step father pushed church on us, I think it was more a way of getting a free baby sitter for a few hours on sundays and wednesdays, I had attended several different congregations before being stuck in an evangelical church, never had faith in god or bought into the whole religion thing, I stopped going to church when they kept insisting it was time my soul was saved and I was herded into a room and told to fake speaking in tounges, my understanding is that it would just happen if the holy spirit swept through me
I saw the hypocrisy throughout the several years I had attended and just had enough so I said fuck it, I think I'll make my kids go to a snake handling pentecostal church... what's strange is I've never taught them about the bible unless they asked, I correct a lot of things they've learned when my ex has sent them off to church with one of her friends

not raised in any religion. my parents saw church as something that interrupted an otherwise great sunday morning nap. morals were taught, I suppose, from a humanist standpoint.
nowadays, I try to mix, mash, and make my own way. I think I lean most towards buddhist, daoist, and certain types of shamanism as "interesting ideas". I think the unfortunate part of my upbringing is that I'll never truly be able to accept any type of faith without ultimately finding it an interruption to my own nap schedule...

as Anhoktohen said, morals are taught, mostly from example but occassionally from the bible but typically it's only when they mention it, one of the things they recently heard from their mom was the story of solomon and the baby, they had no idea what the moral of the story was because their mother is clueless about morality, I had to finish giving them that part

You could say I was raised Episcopalian then later the folks converted to Catholicism which is where I formally left religion behind but never really felt attached to begin with. My grandparents lived in a more outlaying area so of course went to a United Methodist congregation . The ideological, better than thou bullshit that was spewed from that pulpit is second to none. Digressing, I will say one of the Episcopal priests I had was cool as hell, cussed all the time- and had a deep connection with Islam, martial arts, and alternative medicine. I need to go visit him as he is with hospice although doing remarkably well right now (has something similar to MS) and is the closest thing I've ever had to a mentor.
I would categorize myself as agnostic now, mainly I just try to treat people well and keep a positive attitude about this whole mystical thing we're all in together.

I was raised in the Catholic church and went through 12 years of Catholic school. I regularly attended church for about the first 12 years of my life.
When I turned 12 I essentially became an atheist. I figured that God wasn't real, especially the way "he" was depicted in the bible and through church.
When I turned 15 I got into Wicca and Buddhism. I started my own solitary practice, experiencing things with others sporadically along the way.
I focused mostly on meditation and being aware of my desires through Buddhism. I would meditate often to enter different conscious states that surprisingly proved to be quite therapeutic at the time.
I did most of my spiritual work through Wicca, however. I practiced daily, working on such things as astral projection and spell casting.
I experienced a lot of strange stuff doing Wicca, lots of things I don't mention to most people. Throughout my practice I shared my findings mostly with hindus, as they would notice me reading various spiritual texts and showed great interest in what I was doing.
Today, I guess I'm agnostic, but I tell most people I'm an atheist if they ask. IMO atheism is one of the most logical and "correct" stances you can take on religion as a whole. If I were to say that I believe in anything, it would be that we live in a physical world that is parallel to a world of energy... our consciousness is our souls, and that energy is passed on to another body when we die. Or, we just die and our consciousness is merely a product of our brains. I only (almost) believe in this because of my work with astral projection...

I wouldnt call it a psychotic phenomenon. More so just a social phenomenon. I see it on the level of educational kids shows.
People have just forgotten how to separate the teachings from the story. People take life too seriously.
Is true, but I think that when it gets to the point where doctrinal differences control your life more than the message from which those doctrines sprang, you have definitely achieved a psychotic condition.

I think it's just a human thing.
Do you honestly think we can reach the point where we solely focus on morality and ethics and not use or form religious doctrine? And not let it (religion, spirituality, whatever) rule some facets of society?
It would require a great evolution in thinking, and human genetic manipulation (LOL).
As long as there are people, the religious BS is going to spring up

I do think that we can reach the point where humanity solely focuses on morality and ethics, but also that it's going to take a very heavy degree of manipulation to get us there.
