Questionable jars: unfortunate update
    #14484612 - 05/20/11 02:04 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

In this post I laid out some questions about my jars.  Below is what I wrote in the old thread just now, I'm making a new thread because the old one might be hard to find, don't know.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=14484585&page=0&vc=1#14484585

Well, I used the simplified PF Tek as before where I fruited them inside a small open top cooler with perforated saran wrap on top.  All 3 fruited but developed cobweb mold.  I didn't damage the cakes to my knowledge so I don't have any idea what exactly is responsible for that particular problem. Why that mold and not others?  Although one jar did appear to have some yellow mold as well, not much though. I wonder if anyone has any ideas about this.

I've decided to switch to a dunk tek, also because I've had mushrooms fruiting in all directions off the sides of the cakes, which in the jars is a disaster to harvest.

Almost any time you get cobweb after the mycelium is fully established, it is because of inadequate FAE.

:whathesaid:

Also, just make a SGFC just like RR does in his videos. You won't be disappointed. Picking side pins is huge PITA, especially ones smashed against a jar & they suck to clean once they're dry...

What are "FAE" and "SGFC"?  I don't know all these acronyms.

There is an acronym page somewhere in here.  Spend more time reading the cultivation forum and the Getting started pages.  These terms will become clearer. Your question tells me that you have not done your homework before starting.  It took me about six months to understand all the jargon (and I still get stumped).  It's a right of passage.  The PF TEK is really foolproof but you need to follow it exactly and get a SGFC (shotgun fruiting chamber). FAE is "fresh air exchange".

ALSO - use the search engine.  This website is the most powerful forum I have ever used and has a tremendous search function.
