These little shitski's cost alot!
I thought Iron weights would have costed more but I guess rubber is more expensive.
I am trying to afford a bar and rubber weight plates. Currently what I need is pretty much two 45's, two 35's, two 25's, two 10's, two 5's and two 2.5's. That will do for now.
I am trying work on my clean and jerks. I do clean and jerks with 135 in the gym but I dont throw the bar down from over my head considering they are iron weights and might crack. Instead I lower it down as if it was a millitary press. I maxed 170 over my head while lowering it like a millitary press. It didnt hurt me but it didnt feel good and I definatly didnt want to do that too many times.
If I want to go up in weight I dont think that is a good idea at all. Trying to lower 180 pounds in a millitary press, for me, is not a good idea. I want to be able to throw it down when I complete the lift.
I cant believe I never thought of buying my own barbell a long time ago. This is such a good idea!

I think you can just have 2 bumper plates, and smaller diameter iron plates on the outside, so only the bumpers make contact with the floor. unless you're moving huge amounts of weight.

I hardly ever use my 35's, I would get four 45s instead of two 35's and two 45s.

I wonder if this is true - that would be great.
Bumper plates are super expensive. :S
Keep in mind you'll probably want to build a lifting platform and have a pretty decent space, if your going to be throwing around hundreds of lbs of weight in your house.
You should try Craigslist - i got 477lbs Iron oly plates for $100 and 4x45lbs for $120. I'll be buying a 5' Oly bar for $40 from craigslist on Monday too. Although i don't think i've ever seen bumper plates on there... :S
Goodluck man - you sound pretty strong.
Arn't you supposed to have a special flexible Oly bar aswell?

Flexible Oly bar? Really? I will have to research this for sure.
That bumper plates thing is a great idea! That could save me money.
Well I was planning on throwing the weights down on cement. I have a cement padio outside my house. I dont know if the cement will tear up the rubber or not but either way its worth it to me.

I am almost certain this is a bad idea. At the minimum you will want some sort of rubber mating, although a lifting platform is almost always used, as far as i know.
Also, i believe the flexible bars are very expensive ($500+ for a cheap one.) Although i am not sure if they are necessary at the relatively light weights you'll be using at first. I think the force of tossing a standard bar down is likely to crack a standard bar.
I am interested to read more, hopefully there's some more knowledgeable people around here! - Ill be looking into this in my freetime.
Are you teaching yourself, or do you have someone to show you the ropes?

Oh yes. Looks like I have some research to do myself. I will have to look into matting I think.
I did teach myself and honestly I think I am doing pretty well for myself. I will try and upload a video and you guys can critique my Clean and Jerk.
I started practicing with a barbell and for the longest time I wouldnt clean and jerk more than 115 pounds. One day I felt like trying 135 and wouldnt you know it? It was easy as hell. Which is to be expected with that much weight.
It kind of came natural to me. The main issue for me is safety and I find that if I keep my posture and form at all times then I am always fine. To aid my form I used www.crossfit.com video lessons and I watched many videos of olympian lifters. The hardest part for me to learn was the triple extension and the entire idea of catching the bar. When I first started this lift it took me a while to understand that its nothing like any old basic lift.
There is one thing that I do that is not typical of olympians. Its when I am standing with the bar at rest on my deltoids preparing for the upward drive. When I drive upwards and catch the bar I dont drop into a lunge. Instead simply push my hips back while of course remaining in posture.
I do them like this guy:
It also took me a short time to realize that its a damn good idea to be extremely loose and stretched so you can release the bar like this man did in his last attempt. One other thing I realized was that doing C&J's inside a squat rack is a big no no. I cant believe I was ever doing that. Its confined and if you have to release it behind your back then you are truly fucked because the bar will simply hit the squat rack.
So far I never released in failure yet. But I did practice a couple times with a broom stick. lol
I do have good news to report. I found a crossfit gym that is 1 and half hours away. Its a little drive but they offer one on one instruction on olympic lifts and also group instruction. I am hardcore looking into this. I want my form to be pristine.
Oh shit... and while I am posting I better just ask. Does anyone get into the a certain kind of lifting shoe for these types of lifts? I typically wear flat footed sneakers. I have always lifted in flat footed shoes and they have become comfortable for me. I use them over my tennishoes.
