This is the last block I needed to put in fruiting conditions until after the summer, I hope. After leave it in my fridge for 5 days, I have birthed it today.
The substrate recipe:
160g wheat straw 60g fig tree shavings 11g wheat bran 34g vermiculite 11g blackboard chalk (as gypsum substitute)
On 25th of February I mixed the ingredients and soaked for 2 hours with some soap. After that poured it in a cooking pot and pasteurized with 2,5 liters of water + 5g CaCO3 60-70ºC for hour and a half. Allowed to drain and spawned with 250 ml wheat grains and ofcourse the evidence:

I'm surprised it's not browner and more blistered after 3 months. What strain? RR

Probably are fungus gnats would be my guess. There's probably not a whole lot you can do at this point, they may have infested and laid eggs in your mushrooms already. A trusted cultivator may have a better response tho.

Considering that those are ready to pick, that's the end of your problem. RR

Fungus gnats are easy to spot since they are super lazy and will not fly unless they absolutely have to. If you scare them they will run away. If you have lots of those on your blocks then they are probably done. Even if you get rid of the grants you see they lay their eggs and the larvae will eat their way out and just cause more problems.
Only way I've ever found to control fungus gnats is with the sticky fly paper tubes. Other stuff like cider vinegar mixed with soap doesn't seem to work on these guys at all. As long as I have fresh fly paper that seems to keep them in check.

I doubt they'd be attracted to light. Generally they don't nest in mushroom substrates, but are attracted by the sweet smell of mycelium. Once you clear out the food source, they usually disappear. Check your houseplants to see which one(s) they're breeding in.
If you have a vacuum cleaner with a long hose, they're easy to suck out of your fruiting area. In my farm, I just blast them with the water hose when I'm spraying the substrates, which drowns the little critters. RR

Thanks for that tip! I'm starting my farm end of next month and am converting an old barn... my biggest concern is bugs

I'm afraid there is nothing to do already, when I harvest them some had the stem rotten and the block seems soft on the inside. My guess is that they have laid eggs inside and now there is a colony of maggots devouring the block.

Well, the final total weight was 144g. With this data can I calculate the biological efficiency or something similar?
