Help! Pressure cooker regulator weight lost.

So i bought a brand new pressure cooker the other day for sterilising and there was no regulator weight! The worst thing is i tore up the packaging so i cant go and return it!
So my question is how do i go about improvising a weight or using the cooker effectively without one?
I know its possible because me and my friend managed to use on without a weight but that was years ago i cant remember how.
Thanks Shroomery!

I would just order a replacement weight. Look up the model number on the PC and google search it for replacement part.
If it was a presto for example you can start with...,
Google: Presto (model number) pressure cooker replacement rocker.
I wouldn't count on running it without the rocker. It will loose all the water and never reach the PSI you need to sterilize.
If you and your friend did this years ago, I would be willing to bet it was with PF jars as they don't need to be pressure cooked in order to avoid contamination.

If it didn't have a weight in it you should be able to take that bastard back without a receipt and get a bran new replacement one, open the box b4 you leave to make sure it has a weight.

1) Go back to place of purchase 2) Purchase same exact model/type 3) Take home, remove weight from box, put on your PC 4) Repeat step 1 5) Return new(er) one, tell them it didn't have a weight, and that you changed your mind anyway

I did that with a playstation once, I bought a new one, cleaned up my one that wouldnt play DVDs, switched the tops and completely removed the void sticker because the serial # is on the box and the PS2. I took the broke one back with the lid to the new one on it and the receipt and got a full refund, so I had a brand new ps2 with a used case top for free

Now a days I have a pair of AA75x's but I did that to walmart 4 times before buying them.
I would use the PC for a few months then buy a new one, switch the body - rocker - and gasket ring,...
Then I would put it all back in the box and put the new lid on the older parts, and return it. I was a very resourceful noob!

Plus I have this huge thing against walmart

Or when you go to shit mart do all your grocery shopping, go home, unpack, and then go back to walmart and tell customer service you left the most expensive item on your list at the bagging station at U-scan and it wasn't there when you get back and the person working uscan didn't see it, show them the receipt, and go get another turkey or whatever you bought that was way over priced and BAM! instant buy one get one free.
It only works for food items though because if they find a frozen or refrigerated item the have to immediately take it back to the cold area, the toys electronics etc would be put in a cart to be put away later. Whole frozen birds would be worth the extra trip though they are expensive. Then you grab a big bag of ice and a newspaper by the door on the way out and if anyone stops you, you just tell them that you told the cashier you wanted them and they must have forgotten to add it to your order. That is bad I know I don't do it anymore...

I wouldn't attempt to fashion a clandestine weight, unless you want to be blown up. Does it have a pressure guage?

I don't think 'clandestine' was the word you were looking for. Makeshift, maybe?
It's going to be very hard to machine a weight to the proper taper so that it will seal against the vent tube properly. You could get lucky, but then again, it could also just be a huge source of frustration.

There is this thing called google that will tell you who sells replacement part(most likely amazon is cheapest) all you have to do is type your PC brand, model, and the part you need and it magically finds replacement parts for you by reading peoples minds that have the part and want to sell it. Or you could grow some nads and go to wally world and whine like a teenage girl that wants a car until they get tired of listening to you and let you get a new one.
You can also go to the clearance aisle and find a fan or something marked way down, go get the most expensive fan or whatever you saw in the clearance aisle that you wanted but a better version and put the clearance tag on the expensive item and hide it as good as you can and get your good buddy that is in on it but never goes there with you, to go back and get the item from the clearance aisle and purchase it, they have to give it to you for the price on the sticker and if they go back and look at the tapes it would be two different people, one changing the sticker and one casually shopping that just happened upon the deal. You can only do these every once in a while because security will catch on. Wow I am a bad person, that is so evil and conniving and dishonest, please forgive me God...

Whatever PC you have there is a weight for it on amazon I almost guarantee.
If you haven't signed up for the free amazon prime trial yet you can do that and get it shipped 2nd day air for free or next day for 3.99, you just have to make sure to cancel it and not use it after the free trial end because they will charge you an $80 membership fee if you don't cancel and use it again after the free trial. If you forget to cancel it but don't use the free prime shipping then they will refund your 80$ after you cancel it. Can't beat a month of free 2 day shipping.

also, on the pc's I've bought, the weight was always taped to the cardboard packaging inside, so be sure to look before you throw it away. Clandestine wasn't a choice word. I mis-use it for everything homemade

Heh, sorry to call you out. It's a common mistake.
Also FWIW, I didn't mean to turn this into a "how-to-rip-off-Walmart" thread. Stealing was not the goal of what I posted - it was only to help vegtableman get what he paid for.

Wal-Mart deserves it and they won't miss it. They are robbing all the small business owners, you reap what you sow. Besides is it really stealing if you take off the barcode sticker for a 8.99 spaghetti strainer that was just a barcode with no price, and when you get to the checkout and the lady asks you if you know the price and you tell her there wasn't a price on it(not a lie) and there was one a little different for $1.99 right next to it(not a lie) and the cashier sells it to you for $1.99. Then that is just some employee selling you a discounted item because you were smart, right?

Most empires, including Walmart are built on spoiled roots.
You are totally correct though, an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.
Stealing food to survive is one thing, but stealing PC's is no good.
I don't want to give the impression that I am promoting this, its just something I did to get to where I needed to be at the time.
It is not something I'm proud of, thats for sure.

I don't mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadents.
But I can't take from the powerless when my cups already over-filled.
Judgemental bastards. "ew, that's stealing. you're bad."
