I don't know about this women but I don't think people realize how dangerous a pressure cooker can be if not used properly.
I don't think people should be scared to use one, Just carful.

I have 2 theories:
1) She tried to move it, realized her bones with the density of a dry sponge couldn't hold it and she dropped it, or
B) Part of her nightgown got caught on it and she dragged it right off the top of the stove as she hobbled away.

Hey, I'm just being realistic here. How else would an elderly woman fuck up something as simple as pressure cooking? You know the grannies are all about it, so one of those two things must've happened. The article said it fell... How would a heavy ass pressure cooker full of stuff just fall off the stove if not for it being tangled in their clothes, or they tried to lift it and failed?

Are they going to make pressure cookers illegal now? It only takes 1 person to make people freak the hell out and ban it.

Most likely the lady was cooking beans or some other starchy food in it, which is a big no no. The main valve probably got clogged with the starch and then a bean got wedged up in the safety release valve which all PC's have and will pop off before danger, but not if something large blocks it off.
So then she probably saw that her cooker had stopped rattling, went over to pull the weight off to see if steam was coming out, burnt her hand from the 300F steam coming out, knocked the PC on the floor, and KABOOM!
I know a friend of a friend's uncle that sliced off his fingers doing something similar. PC's are to be respected!

While running he tried to open it when it got clogged and stopped rattling. It was most likely a old model with no locking mechanism to prevent opening while hot.
