I wanna see what statement this fucker gives once Oct 21st passes and the universe isnt destroyed and he's still here.

I bet him and his whole congregation will hide themselves where they'll never be found and then commit mass suicide.

Why would they commit suicide?

what i find to be fascinating about this whole "rapture theology" is the relative newness and fervor with which it has burst onto the modern Christian scene. Dispensationalism is a relative newcomer in crazed pseudo Christian ideologies (started in the 1830's and only really took hold at the beginning of the 20th century).
Americans love this whole apocalyptic perspective of the world. They eat it up like popcorn at a Hollywood movie. I know many, many people that believe in the idea of a rapture and the "end times" and most, if not all of them, "lead lives of quiet desperation" (to quote Thoreau).
I've thought quite a bit on the popularizing of rapture theology in American Christianity and have come to a few conclusions (only one of which i'll posit here and now). I've noticed a trend within the folks who believe in rapture theology here in the States. Most are lower middle class, live disconnected, lonely suburban lives and watch far, far too much cable news.
Often, the only lens through which they view the outside world (through news media) is extremely narrow and helps to reinforce what the preacher on Sunday says about how corrupt and fucked up things have become.
I can completely understand how so many come to believe that the world is a horrid place and that they need to be "redeemed" or "raptured" from this planet. I get it. And because I get it it depresses me. I don't find people like Camping or his followers stupid. I find them sad, diminished humans looking for something, anything, to save them from themselves and the lackluster life they so wish to leave behind.
I empathize with these folks. How devastating will it be come Sunday morning and they wake up to the reality that their lives on Earth have not come to an end but instead are at some strange crossroads of a new beginning they never wanted?
--------------------
"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

Well I have prayed to God and Jesus for forgiveness and accepted Jesus into my heart and asked him to be my personal lord and savior, so I should be good, right? Just to be on the safe side I will start going to church.
Hallelujah Jesus!

unless you don't actually believe...
i've done the same thing, but I've also said there is no god so...just because i believed it once, doesnt mean i do now, and if the rapture happens on sat then i'm going down for sure...as I'm sure many others would be.

why do they know the precise date for the beginning of the rapture(which, according to their own bible, no one will know) but the end is pretty wide open--october 2011? is god leaving it open incase it takes him longer than he thought? i mean, i know it is serious work killing off all the rest of humanity that he doesnt save, but shouldn't he know how long it would take? he knows all doesn't he? but maybe the end doenst matter, cause that's just gonna be the killing period for all the unbelievers/unworthy sinners? god's gonna be doseing out some painful wrath on all of the rest of humanity--burning and painful, agonizing, lengthy, torturous death. isn't he great!............so glad i dont believe in this crazyness

Because some crazy cult leader said so.
I wonder how many people will kill themselves this time. Theres already stories of people spending their life savings on adverts to warn others and people have started businesses buying peoples shit off them cuz they gonna be raptured
