Oysters on Harwood Mulch
    #14479492 - 05/19/11 04:10 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I found these at the garden store today growing on hardwood mulch straight from the bag

If these arent entirely covered with mycelium, i could still make a stropharia ruguso patch right?

it's hardwood mulch and not chips

Well if they are oyster like they appear then no you can not make stropharia patch unless you pasteurize and inoculate with stropharia spawn.  Stropharia rugosa is a different type of mushroom than oysters.  If you want to make an oyster patch with the mulch as is then yes you should be able to simply mix this into an area and make a patch.  I would harvest/ let fruit again/ harvest/ then inoculate patch with spent mulch and new wood chips.

I need tropical cultures, ABM, V.v....!!!!

Well things don't always look as they are and things can be misread and mistaken for what they realy are so don't read too much into what I say since I might be mistaken myself. And remember I rarely ever give a definate answer.

What did you end up doing? I probably would have just bought the bag and poked more holes and let it run its course with oysters.

I really don't have a clue.  It's been four years but I definitely ate the oysters.

It's crazy to think this was 4 years ago.
