Good Idea?

My bulk tray is in a sgfc and seems to only want to pin from the sides. I was going to take it out of the tray and just set it on a piece of foil inside my sgfc. Is this a good idea and if so how should I go about doing this without harming the mushies that are already their?

How big of a container is that? When I was using my GHs, I would just tip the tub completely upside down while supporting it w/ my free hand's fingertips & work it out slowly then put it right side up on the lid of my tub.

To this:

I'd recommend checking out some different mono tub designs & invest in some tubs & prep them & just use those. It's an all in one set up.

I don't think that will be beneficial. Usually, pinning from the sides means that it needs more humidity and evaporation in the middle - it's only getting the RH it needs along the sides. If you take the cake out, it will expose the sides, which will expose more of the mycelium to drying out. I don't think you'll gain much in terms of perlite surface area.
Increasing RH is the best way to go... you may need a larger FC if you can't get enough perlite in there that's uncovered. Your SGFC has holes in the bottom and lid, correct?

That happens all the time with the shotgun mono's cuz they don't hold rh good enuff, the slightest breeze wipes out rh inside and u end up with only side pins.
The side pins would probably do fine where they are btw. There's not much to be gained by moving it. You're more likely to break it than help it.

make sure to fan a little more though, too. You don't want to over saturate the substrate

The no-pins-in-center phenomena isn't just about misting, it's about the actual rh.
You have to look closely at the air flow in the room and adjust the holes appropriately. For example I taped up all the holes in the lid and the top row. I just have 2 rows. But I have good air circulation so it balances out.
I gave up on these tubs cuz i realized the polyfill is a huge help when it comes to regulating rh and evaporation.
If you're going to keep experimenting with these I would plan on using wax paper every time. It's a chronic problem with that design.
