Re-reading the Bible... with a twist.
    #14478181 - 05/19/11 11:49 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

In this thread, I will post Bible scriptures with references to God and Christ (but not necessarily spirit) removed. I will also link to relevant images for ADD readers  Remember that the books of the bible are not truly chronological. the order (and substance) of the bible as it is commonly known were also selected and presented in an intentional way. Shall we begin?

*******************************************

Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with [us].

If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.

*******************************************

I think the Bible has a lot of hidden gems that get overlooked because nearly everyone who reads it these days does so because it is suggested by their religious/social affiliation(s), which generally forces readers to focus on the shitty parts of the Bible like the letters Paul wrote when he was locked up in prison (almost certainly getting homo-raped 3x harder than you would in a modern prison), where he slips up and says contentious things about homosexuals. Most of the readers with the mental capacity to truly see the simple, profound, and sometimes just downright interesting beauty hiding behind in between the Hallelujahs and the elaborations on the penis sizes of various people who lived 4,000 years ago (okay only one, but apparently he had no other accomplishments worth writing down... at least his penis size is a part of the planet's #1 bestselling book. More than most of us can say for our own accomplishments). Moving right along....

*******************************************

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

*******************************************

Note that many of the technologies and even mental capacities that have developed since this passage was written would, to its author, qualify as “gifts of prophecy” which allow one to “fathom all mysteries” (science) and “all knowledge” (internet). Neither is moving mountains a particularly big deal, except among environmentalist nutjobs. Love still seems to be a loaded issue, though.

]

Archaeological evidence suggests that the book of Job was the first book written, prior to any of books preceding it (at least, that is what my bible says in the fine print). If you happen to be the kind of person who reads the bible annually or whatever, which I am almost positive none of you are (i sure as hell am not), or if you are just curious and have free time, might find it interesting to re-read it next time, starting with the book of Job, skipping Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Leviticus (of course), and only reading the books of John - Romans from the new Testament, with references to God (etc) removed. The reader should attempt to refrain from masturbating while reading the Song of Solomon.

*******************************************

And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also.

[Now you also know.] Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

*******************************************

your cherry picking though that is what serial killers do too Albert Fish twisted the OT to mean he could kill and eat about 600 little kids

taking god out of the bible is quite a twist indeed WTF dude

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test

if you take this passage here from Mathew 4- even the devil used scripture to tempt the Messiah

If the devil asked me that question, I would respond,

It is also written,

"There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Therefore, I am going to pick and choose which parts I want, cuz that is irrelevant. Don't care if God says it's not. It is.

Also, someone please check me into the mental hospital.

God didn't mention anything in the bible about nit-picking certain parts

Though I will say, and i've said before, at base level every religion has good words and teachings to live by. However, thousands of years ago someone or something decided to fuck shit up and saw religion as a vessel to bring about even more disharmony upon mankind. It really is your choice if you decide to remain in the dark, but I don't look at christians any different then I do muslims, jews, mormons, jehovas, hindus. These religions are no more then cultural furniture and when the realization is made that culture is nothing more then decades of programming of your psyche(and most likely negative programming), one can no longer run back to the refuge of ignorance that religion offers.

Here's a good example that the OP wrote:

"
[Now you also know.] Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
"

Now let's see, most wars have been fought because god told all of them that it would be a good idea to kill each other. Sounds more like a scapegoat to be able to pass judgement on people with indifferences.

It is clear that religion no longer promotes love, compassion, understanding, and harmony. It has been doing the opposite for thousands of years... the function of religion is archaic :satansmoking:

Untrue. I am a human, and I promote love.

Even if you are a human that promotes love, that does not discredit the fact that humanity as a whole does not. War is what we're good at and always have been.

I'm stuck in the same rut as everyone else as far as I can tell. My mind loves to make in-groups and out-groups and play favorites. It also loves to treat those who treat me well or with respect better than those who treat me with disrespect or spite. There are exceptions to the dividing thoughts/feelings/behaviors but in general that's my day-to-day experience of life.

And as far as I can tell, the wheel of negative emotions will continue to spin despite my efforts.

You don't think your efforts have helped deal with your human condition in the slightest, or think you can continue those efforts towards more success?

I think it's human nature to make friends as well as enemies and so I don't think I can dent that in the slightest. It's a part of the movement of life IMO.

I think it is possible for a human being to give up the idea of enemies. Hell, I really don't have any enemies. I realize most peoples flaws, like my own, come from the environment they were subjected to as a blossoming consciousness. I try and see what annoys me in other people as a reflection of my self.

If you look at it as your enemy it is bound to always be just that.

Call it whatever works best for ya. Having something you favor and want to keep around (IMO a friend) and something you want to change or see removed (an enemy) just seems like a part of the movement of life to me and unavoidable.

Who said it wasn't a part of a plan? And what plan? Did you make the plan? How do you know about this plan? Are you the judge of what is a part of the plan and what is not?

1 In the beginning

was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

The prophets prophesy falsely

And the priests rule on their own authority;

And people love it so!

It isn't difficult these days to effectively pick and choose and words and images to evoke all sorts of thoughts.

This is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

"...and it shall be in the last days
That I shall pour forth my spirit on all mankind

And your sons and daughters shall prophesy,
Even bond slaves, both men and women
I [the word] will in those days pour forth my spirit
        And they shall prophesy.

And your young men shall see visions,

And I will grant wonders in the sky above

and signs on the earth below,
Blood, and fire, and vapor, and smoke."
