Someone said the best time to pick fruit is when their veil breaks, is that the case with this guy? B+

If you look at the underside of the cap and see gills then the veil broke. But that one done look like it's broken

Smokey-hitz makes an important definition. General wisdom states that the optimal time for standard commercial production is to pluck the fruit just at the moment the viel begins to tear. "After that point there is a loss of potency." In my experience, while the yield is somewhat less there is somewhat of an increase in potency if the fruit is picked at the point the viel is just starting to form. Further, if you're into experimentation you'll find that even smaller fruits may tend to have an even higher increase in potency. Just like tiny Hobo spiders' venom is more poisonous than that of the full grown ones. The primordia are considered very potent.
If it's for your personal use, for example, and you can spare some, it's worth collecting a bunch of very immature fruits and primordia and comparing the effectiveness for yourself gram for gram. In my own case I did this on purpose to collect the most potent collection of specimens and dehydrated them till they were bone dry and ground them to a fine powder in a coffee grinder for use in the Anubis storage technique. If you have an airtight glass bottle you simply press the powder in as firmly as you can pack it and seal the bottle so that it is completely air tight. Gram for gram you need less for the same effect and these little bottles made for excellent gifts. They retain virtually 100% of their potency for years at ordinary room temperature if protected from exposure to light, heat, air and moisture. It's interesting to hear reports back about how such a small amount of powder taken with orange juice really kicked somebody's ass. It can be a nice surprise for someone.

Smaller fruits are more potent by weight, I pick most of mine way before the veil breaks and then I can trip pretty good off of 2-3 grams, if I let them fully mature it takes 5 grams for a similar trip.

Wait so when the veil breaks completely it LOSES potency? Or do you just mean there's the same actives as before it grew bigger.. making it less in a sense of actives over weight?

It doesn't lose potency theres just more mass that the potency is spread over compared to if the fruit is picked smaller

The same mushroom will have the same amount of psilocybin from pin to flat capped mature fruit, the mature fruit will be much bigger, thus, making it less potent my weight. If you pick the mushroom as soon as it starts to tear the veil or before is the best for calculating the measurement of dry grams you need to trip.
If you let them get too big you will have people that don't trip good because they eat the giant 5 gram cracker dry shroom and another person will have a sick trip and only eat 3.5 grams of cracker dry pins.
I think half grown pins are the best just before the first part of the veils starts to pull up, or just before you can see the inside part of the veil. Then they have a little weight to them, when I pick them like that I will use them fresh in tea after taking 1000% daily requirement of vitamin C.

This contradicts what i have read so far? I mean, I thought Psilo was produced from pin, to around the time the veil forms or shortly before it breaks. If it is 'producing' psilo between that time, surely the potency couldn't be the same in the baby pin?
In case this invites flaming, this is just what I thought ive read so far. I invite clarification.

LOL, people must all hate me here or something.
I read a post by RR explaining it, he said that they have all their actives in the dry matter, they have all their dry matter when they are small pins, then the cells in the dry matter expand as they soak up water making the mushroom grow bigger, light supposedly give it the energy to turn carbs and other nutes into sugars that they use for food as they expand. That is what I understood, I could be wrong but I am almost positive RR said that a pin has all of its actives from pin to maturity, and I am absolutely positive that he said smaller shrooms are more potent by weight, the smaller the more potent.
I have eaten a few small pins before and gotten a good body buzz and brief visuals from them. I might try 3.5 grams of very small pins next time to see if I feel any noticeable difference.

No hate implied or intended friend
I went back and read a few posts by him and found that he said that. Its just hard to believe that the 5 pins on my cake that are the size of a bobby-pin head have the same potency they will when they start to form their veil, kinda made my for a minute.
Again though, thank you for the response and

Don't be so defensive I thought you explained it quite well, its like if you have a gram of psilocybin and you mix it with a gallon of orange juice your going to have to drink it all to feel its effects compared to if you mixed it with a 8 oz glass

I've read the same thing about a pin vs a mature fruit containing the same amount of actives. I don't think its a definate science right now but If someone took the time to measure the amount of actives in the pins vs matures that they would be very close to the same amount.
Why else would aborts and pins be considered so potent

My first mushroom trip was a bunch of PF Classic aborts on BRF cake. Let me say WOW!! They blew my socks off! One of the best trips I've ever had.

There was a scientific study done on this and the kink was posted on here, they found that the psilocin content went down when you dry shrooms, so eat them fresh for better visuals. And they proved that the pins and mature fruits had almost the same amount of actives. Cant remember who it was or what thread it was posted on?
