PE6 Mono *updated with pin pics!!!
    #14466887 - 05/17/11 08:34 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

On day 12 of a PE6 mono. This morning I noticed these yellow spots in the corner of the tub. The shitty camera didnt do a very good job of capturing the color. Its definately yellow and not green(yet)
I am hoping metabolites?

Day 13
woke up this morning and found little greenish blobs in the same spot I was concerned about yesterday. The rest of the tub looks great with knots all over it. but really concerned about the green

Here is a better pic of the green I saw this morning. It looks more green tonight,, what should I do?

and.... PINS!!!

Day 14 - the green is spreading :frown:  any advice?

That would be my guess, I'm in the process of my first grow and there's a yellow haze over the top, and those patches usually form into pins. Yours could be different and on my cell phone I can't see that picture worth a shit, but I think you're fine.

What u have there is a full blown , first flush trichsplosion.

Odds are the spawn was contaminated. This doesn't look like a case that's suited for any kind of paste.

A candidate for paste is a substrate that is pinning in parts but has small contained areas of dark green.

When you see a mountain of trich welling up from under the surface like that, there's not much hope. You're better off to trash it before it becomes a big trich bomb.

I like that idea better than tossing the whole tub! I thought about just using a shop vac on that corner of the tub.

My luck I got nice pins all over a 61qt mono the same day 1 small spot of light green shows up.

You see those light tan spots near the green?

Are there any more of those anywhere on the substrate? If so, how many / where ?

thats the thing... the sub is pinning ALL over the entire tub. The only spot not pinning is little spot in the corner. (and thats the only hint of green)

bury it in tile grout then. salt sucks. it causes water to pool up top thru osmosis and u get a small salt water pond that damages the substrate.

where are these pins btw? i don't see ne.

..nmind i see em...looked closer.

If u use salt, take it easy or u'll make a lake.

If u use sand or grout or something, be generous and really bury that corner. Sucking it out with the vac first could be beneficial but you have to watch where you're exhausting the vaccuum and u don't want the trich to colonize your vacuum bag. so think carefully before u get crazy w/ your vac.

Obvious bruising.  Trich spores sit on top of the surface.  The green in your picture is the color of the mycelium.  That indicates bruising.  Many strains bruise green, not blue.

Salt is highly toxic to mycelium.  I was afraid a few years ago when I mentioned that covering a spot of mold with salt can help get a substrate through a current flush, that people would start using it routinely and recommending such to others.  I now regret doing so.  It has ruined far more grows than it has saved.  I don't even use salt in my own mushroom farm, where getting through to harvest is the difference between making a profit and starving.  Contaminated substrates go to the garden area on first sight.

The bumps on that substrate are suspect and may indeed turn out to be nasty, but the spot of green pictured above is bruising.
