you did the right thing
dont worry about GK, its tough love. he is good at humbling newcomers which is a great thing when it comes to mushrooms because most people are "positive" theyve got the real deal, like your friends.
please keep hunting. i think you will find that while the hallucinogens got you into it, the vast and amazing world of fungi will soon suck you in

I was out grabbing some dried horse manure today at my favorite stable and found these babies underneath a nugget, anyone know what they might be? I'm pretty sure the mature fruit is Panaeolus foenisecii(which also grow in the area)are they just immature fruits? I don't really mushroom hunt outside of the well known edibles in my area and I'm not planning on chowing them I was just curious

Not sure if you meant to hijack this thread, but those two small specimens are a different mushroom altogether, and belong to the genus Coprinellus I believe.
Oh, and congrats on a solid first ID request, Alec. Welcome to the Shroomery.

Coprinoid and probably Panaeolus cinctulus - take a picture of the gills.

I really didn't mean to hijack the thread,to be honest this is my first time ever posting in a forum of any kind so I'm not sure how to even start a thread,my apologies to OP and everyone. Here is a pic of the gills,The other two on the horse manure I'm just going to put outside in a partialy shaded area and see if they mature,I'm really curious to find out what they are. They almost look like tiny shaggy manes which of course I know are white.I'll take a print now as see what I get tomorrow. Thanks everyone

I'd wager cinctulus due to the red bruising on the stipe.
