That book really blew my mind man, especially when they finally get into the weird space they find in the house.
I really dug it. A story within a story within a story. It read like being beaten in the head with bricks due to the wacky format, but the actual words the guy wrote were pretty good. I liked it a lot, and liked the little touches here and there. The more you look at the book, the more you realize.

I've been meaning to read this. I hate times like these when I'm not addicted to a good novel. They've just been so few and far between lately for some reason.

Ever read any Neal Stephenson? His are pretty good, a little mindbending at times. Anathem is one just about anyone on these boards would like, it's very crazy.

I love House of Leaves, it's filled with all sorts of little secrets and hidden content if you know what to look for.

Fantastic book, anyone who thinks it isn't good is too retarded to have finished it. You don't have to LIKE it, but you can't deny its just damn good.
Only revolutions is good too, weird fucking format too

Mark is an interesting character, his sister is a very talented musician, the book and one of her albums are tied together

I read a book of his, 'only revolutions' that had two stories in one, the first story was right side up on the right pages, the other was upside down on the left, I think you were supposed to read one chapter of one story and one chapter of the other and the book had two built in bookmarks to keep your place... pretty nifty idea but it wasn't as good as house of leaves.

I'm not sure how that's even possible. I always thought they should do a Navidson Record movie and leave it at that, make it a companion piece to the book. I don't think the entirety of the story would translate as well to screen. Half the fun of the book is the air of mystery. Is it a supernatural phenomenon? Is it the product of a warped mind, maybe even two? Is the whole thing in Johnny Truant's head or is his life falling apart because of the writings he found?
I think if you put that in a movie, you'd be removing that sort of ambiguous feel. It'd be all black and white, beholden to what the directors and writers interpreted the book as. As a movie, the Navidson Record could work, I think.

I think it could be a very good picture if well done - but its going to take one hell of a director and crew.

Agreed!
I've been slow reading it, mostly because I get headaches trying to read it from the strange format (not the essay format with footnotes...thats cake...I mean when shit gets REALLY weird) but i'm about half way through now, trying to finish it soon.
