I have not found any morels in NY yet, and that patch makes me jealous

I blame the weather here, like I blame on every unsuccesful hunt

Nice photos by the way

Great pics.  I haven't seen any clusters around here yet this year, just a solitary morel here and there.

Your morel habit is so different from my area. I couldn't imagine finding morels in grass.

Mornin shroomery,

The spot I find these is pretty unusual.  It's the only place where I've seen clusters of yellows so tightly packed and with so many individual mushrooms.  The area is in cottonwood bottomland near a river, where a lot of old trees spread out through a fairly good sized area were knocked over by wind two summers ago.  Not only are there ripped up cottonwoods  with their roots exposed, but the landowners have been back in there with heavy machinery trying to clean up, and in the process, disturbed the soil.  It will be interesting to see how this area behaves over the next few years.  I'm anticipating slightly smaller flushes each year.

To answer your question Wiscokid, I only find yellows associated with cottonwoods, and around dying or recently deceased cottonwoods is where I typically find the largest numbers of morels.
